Mangalore: MCC okays ` 2.7 lakh surplus budget

  • It expects a revenue of ` 28 cr from water bills

 

Mangalore, 05 April 2011: The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) presented a Rs 2.70 lakh surplus budget for the year 2011-12 here on Tuesday.

 

The MCC expects a revenue of Rs 183.91 crore and expenditure of Rs 183.89 crore. The budget was presented by Tax, Finance and Appeal Standing Committee President Sharath Kumar in a meeting chaired by Mayor Praveen.

 

The revenue of the MCC includes Rs 27.44 crore from property tax, Rs 1.24 crore from trade license, Rs 5.05 crore from development fee and building fee, Rs 2.05 crore from markets, Rs 28 crore from water bills and funds from the government and other sources.

 

The budget proposes to set up a vocational guidance centre for students belonging to SC/ST, to provide guidance and training in various courses like Panchakarma, plastic moulding and so on. With this, with minimum qualification, persons belonging to SC/ST can earn their livelihood, said MCC Commissioner Dr K N Vijayaprakash to presspersons on the sidelines of the budget meeting.

 

The budget has also earmarked Rs 15 lakh for evaluation of the two to three projects implemented by the MCC. Reputed institutions like ISEC may be asked to evaluate the schemes. This aims to see whether the schemes have reached the beneficiaries, he said. The budget said that CC cameras will be installed in all the departments of the MCC to accelerate the administrative works.

 

The budget has earmarked Rs 12.20 crore for the development works, Rs 2.75 crore for the welfare of SC/STs and Rs 93 lakh for the removal of poverty, and social welfare.

 

Rebate

 

The budget proposed to provide a rebate of 5 per cent to those consumers who pay the water bill of Rs 780 (minimum of Rs 65 per month) in advance. However, the rebate is not applicable to the non residential, commercial buildings.

 

The budget has earmarked Rs 3 crore towards the construction of railway overbridge in the MCC limits. In case of necessity, more funds will be released by the MCC.

 

Kuteera Bhagya

 

The budget has also increased compensation from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 under Kuteera Bhagya yojana to repair houses of the BPL beneficiaries (barring SC/ST). Under the scheme, each corporator can help 8 houses.

 

Under Kuteera Jyothi yojana, electricity connection will be provided to two BPL families in each ward at a cost of Rs 8,000 each.

 

In ‘Taali Bhagya’ scheme, the amount paid to the girl (during marriage) belonging to SC/ST has been increased to Rs 25,000 from Rs 20,000. Under Chief Minister’s special grant of Rs 100 crore, all the corporators will be given Rs 25 lakh each to asphalt interior roads and for the construction of drainages.

 

Market

 

The MCC has given priority to the development of multiplex market at Bejai and a sum of Rs one crore has already been released. A complex to park 600 cars at old bus stand premises will come up within two years. The MCC will also give priority to the construction of bus stands during 2011-12 in city limits. The budget has decided to utilise Rs 11.52 crore for the maintenance of 3 package solid waste management. A sum of Rs 9.25 crore has been earmarked for the payment of loan borrowed from Asian Development Bank.

 

The budget also proposes to undertake the construction of community hall at Pacchanady Ashraya colony at the cost of Rs 10 lakh, development works in the SC colony at Jyothinagara Kunjathbail at an estimated cost of Rs 15 lakh, construction of community hall at Kodialbail at the cost of Rs 20 lakh and construction of Rangamandira and library at Chilimbi Gudda Adarshanagara at the cost of Rs 10 lakh.

 

The budget also proposes to continue Jalabhagya scheme, development of Radiogudde Park, King’s Park layout and development of Yeyyadi Gundalike road.  Deputy Mayor Geetha Nayak was present.
