Doha: MCC’s Annual Picnic Trip to Al – Ruwais Gardens

Doha, Qatar, 12 November 2011: Eid holidays are the holidays which all look forward eagerly to have a nice break and spend time with family and friends by arranging picnics, beach outings etc in this gulf region.  To meet this quest Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC) Qatar organized its annual picnic a day out to Al Ruwais Gardens. which is located 110 km from the capital city Doha.on the first day of Eid Al Adha, Sunday, November 6, 2011,  More than one hundred odd members of the club set out in a convoy of two buses and a few cars from Doha at about 7:30 a.m. The long drive to Al Ruwais was made shorter as the passengers in the buses entertained themselves with songs, jokes and laughter.  Vinay Alvares in his humorous way was at his best in entertaining the crowd as the host of the day.

 

On arrival at picnic spot, a sumptuous breakfast of idli sambar with chutney and sambhar was served on reaching the destination.  Reena Castelino on behalf of MCC Excom welcomed the gathering. Remy & Namita D’Souza, conducted the ice breaker session to introduce the new and old members and to familiarize with new faces so that all people all could mingle with each other.  This was followed by fun games for the different age groups from the tiny toddlers to the elders with some new games introduced by our active members.  Bachelors  with the help of 5 volunteers had to make the longest chain with any items found which involved everyone and was such a sportive game ably supported by all. While the married ladies played dodge ball, married men played  filling the cups with spoon held in their mouth and married couples played lime game enjoying the music.  This year some of the active members Laveena, Daphney, Jyothi, Jane, Shalini and Roshan were all given the opportunity and responsibility of conducting the games for various age groups  which they did it in a superb way. This was followed by a dance session to the nice baila music and some popular hindi numbers.

 

 

After a delicious lunch of hot biriyani,  group gathered under the pleaseant weather conditions for some fun group games like Dumb charades, Just a Minute (JAM), bingo. and a little entertainment from Remy & Namita with their duet song. Reena Castelino then conducted the prize distribution ceremony and Amitha D’Souza, an enthusiastic old member flew from Dubai  for the picnic gave away the prizes to all Bingo winners. Finally after sipping a cup of evening tea, much awaited Tug of war game was played between 2  ladies group, young girls vs boys group and the men from Bantwal with other men in a best of 3 game.

 

Some made use of the time and went for a dip and enjoyed swimming in the cool waters while others enjoyed the lovely walk on the beach.  Around 5.30 pm all gathered back in the bus and the fun continued in the bus with non stop songs, jokes and antakshari until the drop point to prove the picnic spirit.
