Doha, 07 June 2011: The 19th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Mangalore Cricket Club was held on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. at the Ashoka Hall of Indian Cultural Center. The AGM was attended by 250.members. The objective of the AGM is to update the members on the activities of the club and also to provide an evening of camaraderie, fun, games and entertainment.

The evening began with a prayer led by Cynthia Cordeiro. President Richard D’Souza addressed the gathering and gave his brief message on the activities and the changes in the club and proudly displayed the trophy received from the hands of President of India Smt. Pratibha Patil during the recently held Konkani World Convention organized by Mandd Sobhan in Mangalore in December 2010 which was a great honour to the club and for its contribution to Konkani language. He then thanked everyone for all their help and support extended in the past year and encouraged members to join the executive committee and hone their leadership skills.

General Secretary Riana Pinto read the Annual Report for the year 2010 -2011 followed by Financial Report by Treasurer Prashant D’Silva.  The floor was then thrown open for suggestions and/or discussion to members.  President Richard D’Souza called out the names of interested members and requested members to propose suitable candidates for available posts as the activities of the club have increased. There was a very good response to his call from the members.

The following were nominated; John Britto & Sunson Fernandes to join the Sports committee, Sofie Crasto and Rita Andrade to Cultural Committee, Roshan Pinto & Gracy Fernandes to handle Membership, Ronald Saldanha to Finance committee, Jessy Mendonca as Joint Secretary, Dephny Lobo as Lady Volunteers Head, Henry Fernandes as News Reporter and Timothy Veigas as the Auditor.  The formal stage program was emceed by Dephny Lobo.

The cultural program was emceed by Prabha Rego and Errol D’Cunha, who did a superb job on their maiden emceeing venture. A wide variety of stage performances were put up by members, much to the delight of the audience. The cultural program began with an instrumental piece from Erwick D’Souza followed by a group song on MCC. Some of the winners of the recently concluded Annual Talent competitions were given a chance to perform once again.

GVOM semifinalist Rupert Lobo and composer Remy D’Souza sang beautiful solo numbers. A humorous skit called "Jatpat Haircut -Ladies & Gents Saloon" written and directed by Bonaventure D’Souza had the audience in splits with its rib tickling comedy. Brothers Alistair & Royston Crasto presented a duet dance to an English number ‘Wherever you go”.

There were some innovative and interesting games for all present, including Bingo with a difference which were conducted by Rita Andrade.  Finally a lucky draw was held for the lucky 3 members and the winners were William Gonsalves, Nelson Fernandes & Cynthia Cordeiro.  The sound system was manned by Glylon Rodrigues.

Joint Secretary Shalini Monteiro proposed the vote of thanks. As per the theme “Yeya ek kutamb bhandhya” it was a family get-together enjoyed by all. The meeting ended with a sumptuous dinner. While the adults indulged themselves with food and banter, the kids had the most rocking time on stage dancing with gay abandon to the music played by DJ Glylon.
