Mumbai Indians did not have a huge target to depend but Chennai Super King’s batting collapsed completely to allow the Rohit Sharma- led side to win its first IPL title. MI waited for 6 long years to lift this trophy for the first time in fact they came close in 2010. CSK seemed scared from all the off-field fiasco and played some uncharacteristic shots. Rohit Sharma s temperament makes him a suitable heir to the throne of India s captaincy. Wish and pray that he translates his God given talent into performance at the international stage too. Congratulations! MI.

I am pleased that Sorake is a lot interested in harnessing rain water. If 10% rain water is conserved...it will be an ultimate achievement. We need proven modern and scientific methods of water conservation...user friendly and cost effective projects! Can we get details suitable and compatible to DK region? I am already practicing simple method of big pond (madaga?). Over the period of nearly 10 years we can see substantial improvement in water table. Not too happy about 0.1% conservation! Looking for more and better!!

Dear EugeneBaab and Mudartha Sir, The people running Indian Cricket know that come what may, the Indian public will still keep patronizing cricket. And this is where their arrogance and denial stems from. Cronje had consciences which lead him to admitting his guilt, but most others continue to be in denial. Some of the younger guys have seen this and perhaps now think that even if they were to be caught, they could get away with it after a few years of obscurity. Unfortunately the game we all loved so much is in the hand of people who wants to dictate their terms and thinks they are bigger than the game. If this continues there will be one day when stadiums will be empty and cricketers will be treated like Hockey players. Nobody will care who played, where they played, who lost and who won.

The cricket s own anti-corruption authorities may be doing their best but only real policemen have the legal authority to keep the sport on its toes by tapping phones, tracing money, asking uncomfortable questions. Hence as we all know, in time and all the time - because the betting mafia doesn t go on holiday! It is bound to!

Moral outrage by cricket fans at betting and fixing scandals arises out of misplaced notion that it is game, pure and simple. Cricket has long stopped to be merely a game. It is a mega industry of entertainment, advertisement, and high living.
The design of IPL structure in itself gives out its mores. The franchisee bid for players. Highest bidder walks away with highest ranked player. Fattest wallet takes the VIP boxes in the stadium. It is a doll s play of big bucks, people with so much money that do not know what to do.
It does not bother a majority of Indians, who are toiling from sunrise to sunset and earn a living. The police must spend their time to make their lives secure and safe, and not in chasing these crooks playing games for excitement.
Legalize betting. This will decriminalize the business. Forget fixing, the owners will get bored of it or main each other. What is the problem if that happens? of two teams, one has to win and the other lose. What problem a cricket fan has if CSK wins or KKR? They are not shareholders and get no dividends in any case. Pleasure, they have it, if a huge six is due to fixing, luck or sheer talent. I can t tell in any case!

Dear Francis, thank you very much for the timely analytically written article on Match-fixing, spot-fixing and betting scandals. Though i had been an ardent fan of cricket, i just stopped taking interest in this game since the first news about the Match-fixing surfaced some years ago. I had never watched the so called IPL matches on TV. However, since the scandal broke out recently, i have been keenly watching the news and analysis about this scandal in some of the English news channels which is more interesting than the IPL matches.

Overall it was awesome game to watch. Hodge was special, wonderful player with an amazing sense of humor. Good to see Hodge s innings after a long time even this IPL Hodge chose to do something special to prove his class and worth to his team the world. Good bowling by RR and excellent fight back from SRH and wonderful innings from Hodge.
Whenever RR was in trouble someone stood up and put his hand up for the team, an amazing and an interesting season for the RR so far. Good captaincy and great team environment, no pressure at all on youngsters because no big players are there to follow them up. All Credit goes to Dravid and Paddy Upton. I hope Rajasthan Royals continue this in the coming matches and lift the title after 5 years. Good going RR. Keep it up! Cheers!!!

This happens always: that a culprit keeps changing his statement. When someone is caught, He is stunned, since he is not expecting it. So, after the initial denial, he speaks out the truth that he has committed the crime. However, as soon as he is been assigned to a lawyer, the statement changes. Because the lawyer is meant to save his client, the lawyer instills all intelligence into the head of the accused and then the accused now sings to the tune of the lawyer, but not his own anymore. There were reports that all three accused RR players, and all other accused, had confessed their cheating. The public is largely emotional, and usually take side with sympathy in most of these cases. One should wait until the investigation is complete and then one can form any opinion! But in most cases the end result will be……!!!

There was this robbery in Guangzhou, the robber shouted to everyone: "All don t move, money belongs to the state, life belongs to you". Everyone in the bank lay down quietly.
This is called "Mind Changing Concept - Changing the conventional way of thinking".

One lady lay on the table provocatively, the robber shouted at her "Please be civilised! This is a robbery and not a rape!"
This is called "Being Professional - Focus only on what you are trained to do!"

When the robbers got back, the younger robber (MBA trained) told the older robber (who is only primary school educated), "Big bro, let s count how much we got", the older robber rebutted and said, "You very stupid, so much money, how to count, tonight TV will tell us how much we robbed from the bank!"
This is called "Experience - nowadays experience is more important than paper qualifications!"

After the robbers left, the bank manager told the bank supervisor to call the police quickly. The supervisor says "Wait, wait, wait, and let’s put the 5 million RMB we embezzled into the amount the robbers robbed".
This is called "Swim with the tide - converting an unfavourable situation to your advantage!"

The supervisor says "It will be good if there is a robbery every month".
This is called "Killing Boredom - Happiness is most important."

The next day, TV news reported that 100 million RMB was taken from the bank. The robbers counted and counted and counted, but they could only count 20 million RMB. The robbers were very angry and complained, "We risked our lives and only took 20 million RMB; the bank manager took 80 million RMB with a snap of his fingers. It looks like it is better to be educated than to be a thief!"
This is called "Knowledge is worth as much as gold!”

The bank manager was smiling and happy because his loss in the CINOPEC shares is now covered by this robbery.
This is called "Seizing the opportunity - daring to take risks!"

You deserve rest after doing a hard and thankless job for the last ten long years. Thank you very much in advance for sparing the nation of possible midterm general elections during the last ten years. I would have preferred "a known devil to a un known devil" in 2014. But the opposition too should get an opportunity to learn how to govern this country. They are experts in disposing everything that the government proposes. Once the roles are reversed, as it was done in Karnataka five years back, they will know how difficult it is to govern a country as vast and diverse as ours. While in opposition "do unto others what you expected others do unto you".

With Mixed feelings I wish Fr. Jerome God s Blessings on his transfer from Kuntalnagar. He has done wonderfully well in the propagation of faith-evangelization-at Kuntalnagar and given a face lift to the hill top, which is difficult to describe. It was perhaps to lead the Mission in a wider and more populated parish like the one in Miyar,Fr. Monteiro deserves all good wishes of the People of Kuntalanagar, though he was there for only Two years.
It is also a hearty welcome to Fr Denis D Sa, who had won the hearts of large populace of Magalore diocese and as director of Fr. Mullar Hospital Magalore. In my view this kind of Priests who can build temples in the hearts of the laity, e given more responsibilty in spreading the evangelization work, so that the impressions that present daof priests more involved in building buildings, than building divine temples in the hearts of People. It is all God s Plans.
while I wish Fr Monteiro all the Best, I wish and welcome Fr Denis D Sa to Kuntalnagar to make it a place- Parish very close to Heaven not because the church is at Heights, but it needs to be raised a devotional centre of St. Antony with regular adorations and worship sessons

20/05/2013 11:51:44

Victor, Siddaramaiah is the last man to cut the government size. Our state government has fifty departments. Would there be a CM who can reduce them to a dozen?
For example, education has three: Higher education, primary secondary education and medical education! One education department would be enough. At a later stage, education can be clubbed with youth affairs, sports, etc under a single ministry as HRD.
Similarly, a single ministry would be enough for ALL transportation infrastructure like ports, roads, waterways, inland transport, etc. Same goes for minor, medium, major irrigation, water resources, etc are one ministry as water resource management. If this trend of optimization is taken to logical conclusion, only 8 ministers are needed. Each minister can have 3 ministers of state under his control to assist with sub-departments. the CM should not hold any direct portfolio. He should be an exclusive coordinating boss, THE leader.
BJP, Congress or JDS, the admin reforms will have to wait for eternity!
