Rains claim life in Kundapur

Udupi, 22 July 2010: Heavy rain continued to lash the district with the district receiving an average rainfall of 76.87 mm on Wednesday. Kundapur taluk received the highest at 99.80 mm, Karkala recorded 82.60 mm and Udupi recorded 48.20 mm rainfall for the last 24 hours.

 

In Vanase Gram Panchayath area of Kundapur taluk, Babu Poojary of Kanayana village was electrocuted when he accidentally came in contact with a live suspended wire. Four others also suffered injuries in the incident.

 

 

Gangolli recorded maximum number of damages owing to heavy rain in the area. Many houses collapsed and were partially damaged in heavy overnight rain. A house belonging to Susheela Poojarthy of Gangolli was partially damaged and the loss is estimated to be around Rs 10,000. Another house of Manjunath Kobar in Gangolli was damaged due to heavy rain. The estimated average loss is Rs 10,000. A mud wall house of Mutthu in Malahalli village collapsed and the loss is Rs 10,000.

 

In Hemmadi village of Kundapur taluk, a house belonging to Nagappa Poojary was partially damaged. The approximate loss is Rs 25,000. A house belonging to Udaya Karvi collapsed resulting in an estimated loss of Ks 5,000. Most of the low lying areas remained under knee deep water in the district.
