Udupi: Drama festival from February 25

Udupi, 18 February 2011: For theatre lovers, it is an opportunity not to be missed. The Nama Tuluver Kala Sanghatane will be organising a national-level drama festival “Navarangotsava” at Mudrady in Udupi district from February 25 to March 5. Sanghatane president Sukumar Mohan, who is also a member of Karnataka Nataka Academy, told presspersons here on Thursday that the drama festival was held as part of the silver jubilee celebrations of the sanghatane.
Theatre troupes from different parts of the State and Mumbai would be staging plays during the festival. Threatre troupe Rangayana from Mysore will stage the drama Sadarame on February 25, while Chakra Kalavidaru from Heggodu would stage the play Acharya Prahasana on February 26. Prayoga Ranga from Bangalore would stage the drama Mante Swamy Katha Prasanga on February 27.
The other dramas to be staged during the fest are Mittabailu Yamunakka by Ranga Nirantara of Bangalore on February 28; Muktidhama (Hindi) by Dalmiya Theatre of Mumbai on March 1; Sharashaiyye by Kala Jagatthu of Mumbai on March 2; Thana Mazuri (Marathi) by Bhodi Natya Parishath of Mumbai on March 3; and Vali by Natka of Mudrady on March 4.
The fest would conclude with a “Janapadotsava” (folk festival) on March 5. Various teams from throughout the State would be giving folk dance performances at the folk fest. Filmmaker Nagatihalli Chandrashekhar will inaugurate the drama festival on February 25. Rajya Sabha member and theatre personality B. Jayashree would be the chief guest at the valedictory function on March 5, Mr. Mohan said.
