I partially agree with Monthu. For many generations people of Kurkal and Denduru villages used to build \"Kurkal Katta\" using mud from the hills and branches from the trees of Kunjaru forests. The completion (gandi) of the \"Katta\" was around Christmas every year. The purpose was dual - to prevent the salt water running up stream during the high tides and to harvest spring water of the river for agriculture. From Kurkal to Amavase Kalavu there were no other dams. The harvested water was used by the farmers having arable land along the river banks for two paddy cultivations (suggi and kolake)besides using it to grow vegitables etc. \"Kurkal Katta\" was the life line of the farmers. So, Monthu\ s point is when water from this hand made dam was enough to sustain the lives of the farmers all along the banks for generations what is the use of having many vented dams now when people are least interested to cultivate their land due to labour constraints and animal (and bird) menace. That money could have been utilised for some other projects. Only benefits are rearing fish, connecting the people through roads and sustaining water levels in the wells. May be Month is right after all.

Ankudru vented dam is very good for breeding cat fish[Mogudu] and Mudunjis excellent fishing spot, I dont think our farmers interested to do their agricultural produce using this irrigation system. However nowadays people are interested sell their land go to cities live in the Flats its our new style because of labour and monkeys problem This dam good for our local politician to cross over nothing else Main problem in our village is drinking water problem is it helps our Moodubelle people. Money is wasted for nothing like Ankudru Dam , Kattingeri Lake, Bobborya Lake, I am not saying what they did wrong We should prioritize our planning for main need of our people not for the name.Only one thing is remain Moodubelle people depend on tears water nothing else.

I am not a great supporter of any political party due to their ugly agendas, but I am quite impressed with the work done by these 3 locals leaders in Moodubelle and Padubelle area. Devdas Hebbar, Gerald Fernandes and Ida Gibba Dsouza have done a lot to our villages. The development work carried out in last 10 years was never seen in earlier 50 years. We need to support these local leaders when they do good job instead of writing some unwanted comments for cheap publicity.
I heard that the water level in Kattingeri and other nearby areas has already gone up significantly and we need more such innovative projects in Belle. Let us support our leaders and encourage them to do more.

I remember crossing of the river when I was a small kid with my heart pumping so fast but somehow managed it. Today it is different story all-together, it is a beautiful land, lots of water and irrigation projects. still a a lot of work to be done. The pictures talked. They told us the project objectives were to harness seasonal water resources for local irrigation and raise water table. Once upon a time, the locals did precisely the same, each year, with volunteered community effort, like what the Kanaradi locals told the author.

Now it is the turn of locals to deliver results. Can the public treasury look forward to the local farmers to generate agricultural produce valued by an additional thirty lakhs annually?

Dear Arun, Mangalore, as we talk about road development under any state govt and state highways, you must travel from Bajpe via Kateel to Belman and onwards. You will end up with heavy headache. Women and children throw up. Such is the condition of road. You ask any airport commuters and transporters and their woes. Road around Kateel needs and deserves better attention. Such a pilgrimage place should be attended by mazurai minister before sanctioning any more to others. Why concerned are not thinking about healthy two way width at least for a stretch of one kilometer near the temple to ease traffic congestion?
