Moodubelle: Teachers’ enrichment programme organized in St. Lawrence Educational Institutions

Moodubelle, 07 June 2012: A two daylong Teachers’ Enrichment Programme was organized in St. Lawrence PU College Hall on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 and Wednesday, June 6, 2012 from 9.30 am to 4 pm.  During these two days, Dr. B.K. Ravindra, Principal of SDM Law College, Mangalore was the resource person.

 

The inaugural function of the Teachers’ Enrichment programme on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 10 am was presided over    Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions.  Besides Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes and Dr. B.K. Ravindra, Fr. Paul Sequeira, Principal of St. Lawrence PU College, Fr. Lancy Saldanha, Principal of St. Lawrence English Medium High School, Mrs. Hilda Aranha, Senior Teacher of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School and Sylvester Mathais, Senior Teacher of Church Aided Higher Primary School were present on the dais.

 

Following the prayer by Mrs. Cahndrakala B.E. Kannada Lecturer, Fr. Paul Sequeira welcomed the gathering comprising of teachers and lecturers from all the institutions of the parish.

 

Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes inaugurated the two daylong enrichment programmes and read out the aims and objectives of the programme. After inaugurating the programme, Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes quoting Dr. Samuel Johnson said, “He who has no fire in himself cannot warm others.” Further, he said that teachers should be ‘ warm’ enough to educate children.  Fr. Joswey continued saying that Mahatma Gandhi had spoken about the development of India and had said that the real text book of a student is his teacher. If the teacher plays his role properly in school, society and family, surely India would rise as number one in the world. “We are at the time of competition and we should make use of this opportunity and help our students to excel in life.” Said Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes.

 

The inaugural function was compeered by Mrs. Sarojini Kamath and vote of thanks was proposed by  Mrs. Hilda Aranha.
During the two days Teachers’ Enrichment Programme various topics including Value Based Education, Globalization and Education, Right to Information, and Right to Education Act  were explained and discussed by Dr. B.K. Ravindra in a lucid and simple way that could be understood by all.

 

 

The concluding function of the two daylong Teachers’ Enrichment Programme was held on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 3 pm. Fr. Paul Sequeira presided over the function. Alphonse K. Alva, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council was the chief guest. Dr. B.K.  Ravindra, the Resource Person,  Fr. Lancy Saldanha, Mrs. Hilda Aranha and Sylvester Mathais were also on the dais.

 

During this function,  the participants presented their feed-back  about the Teachers’ Enrichment Programme. The senior teacher from the Church Aided Higher Primary School, Sylvester Mathias said that the programme was quite useful and was necessary to renew teachers’ teaching skills.

 

Mrs. Malathi, senior teacher from St. Lawrence English Medium High School said that the resource person, Dr. B.K. Ravindra explained the Vision and Mission in a meaningful manner and expressed her view that the programme has helped in igniting their thinking.

 

Srinivas Ballal of PU Section said that the resource person had covered many interesting area and he had explained the facts with suitable examples. Further, he said that the programme has been enlightening  and he succeeded in imparting a lot of knowledge to the teachers.

 

Fr. Paul Sequeira in his address said that he had heard quite a lot about Dr. B.K. Ravindra. However, after listening to him he found him to be a genius. Further,  he said that Dr. Ravindra had spoken just what the teachers wanted and had clearly explained the vision and mission. Thanking Dr. Ravindra for his enlightened lectures, Fr. Paul said that the teachers have immensely benefited by his lectures.

 

Dr. B.K. Ravindra in his address expressed gratitude to the institution for inviting him to talk to the teachers. He said that the efficiency of a teacher can take him or her to any height of success. Giving his own example, Dr. Ravindra said that with his service to in SDM Law College, he was able to grow himself while developing the institution. Further, he said that he has been recognized because of his service and a teacher should aspire recognition through his or her service to his or her institution.
Participation certificates were distributed to the teachers by Alphonse K. Alva.  Speaking at this occasion he congratulated all the participants in the programme. He said that human resource development is the main concept of the day. Whatever input that the teachers have received from the resource person would help them in achieving their goals and enriching the community.

 

Kamlakar K.M. compeered the concluding function and vote of thanks was proposed by Joseph D’Souza, Physical Director of St. Lawrence PU College.
