Shirva, 19 February 2010: On Thursday, 18th February 2010 at around 7.15pm there was a burst of fire in Carmine Barboza’s house at Sorkola in Shirva at prayer time. Soon the fire started spreading all around, immediately all next door neighbours and other residents of the village gathered and doused the fire. The Fire Service of Udupi and Police personnel reached the spot within 15 minutes, and completely put off the fire. They inspected the entire house and the other areas to ensure that such incident would not occur again. The cause of the fire is yet a mystery.
The previous day the servant maid had complained that some unknown people had thrown stones on to the roof and there was fire in the compound. The members of the family had rushed out and put off the fire. However, on the next day the incident mysteriously repeated. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
