81 Udupi schools get 100 per cent pass result

  • Only one school gets below 60 per cent pass result


Udupi, 20 May 2012: As many as 81 high schools in Udupi have scored 100 per cent pass results in the SSLC examinations, the results for which were announced on Thursday.


According to the information provided by the Department of Public Instruction here, of the 81 high schools, 15 are aided high schools, 22 government high schools, and 44 unaided high schools.

As many as 232 schools in the district have got above 80 per cent pass results. They include 59 aided high schools, 100 government high schools, and 73 unaided high schools.


As many as 12 high schools have got between 60 per cent and 80 per cent pass results. They include three aided high schools, eight government high schools, and one unaided high school.


Only one government school in the district got pass result below 60 per cent.



As many as 16,071 students had appeared for SSLC exams in the district. Of these, 14,387 had passed. Girls performed better than boys in the examination. Of the 8,058 girls who had appeared for the examinations, 7,537 had passed. Of the 8,013 boys, 6,852 had passed.



Unaided high schools performed better than aided and government high schools in the district. But unaided schools had lesser number of students than government and aided schools. The pass percentage in unaided high schools was 93.49 per cent, while it was 87.18 per cent in aided high schools and 80.36 per cent in government high schools.


Of 3,691 students from government high schools, 2,966 had passed. Of the 2,449 students who had appeared for the exam from aided high schools, 2,135 had passed. Of the 1,873 students from unaided high schools who had appeared for the exam, 1,751 had passed.


High scores

As per the information available on the internet and by the schools to the Department of Public Instruction, there are five top scoring students in the district in the SSLC exams.


They are: Sanjana Aithal from Sri Venkataramana High School, Kundapur (615 out of 625 marks); Akshata Nayak from Sri Venkataramana High School, Kundapur (614/625); Neeraj from T.A. Pai English Medium School, Udupi (614/625); Mayur Mallya from T.A. Pai English Medium School (613/625); and Anaghashree from St. Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady, Udupi, (613/625).


Sanjana Aithal, who stood first in Udupi district, has attributed her success to her family members, teachers, and hard work. Speaking over the telephone, Ms. Aithal said that she used to travel from her house in Amasebail village to Kundapur town on the school bus, which was one-and-a-half hour’s journey.


Her favourite subject is mathematics. She did not attend any tuitions.


“I used to study daily for three hours. I used to read what was taught in the school daily. Hence it was not heavy during the examinations. I used to be attentive in class. This used to help me grasp the subject properly,” she said.


“I want to become a doctor as I like to help people. I want to join MGM College in Udupi for PUC,” Ms. Aithal said.
