Pejawar seer suspends his fast over UPCL row

Udupi, 29 March 2011: Viswesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math said on Monday that he had temporarily suspended his fast on the assurance of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa that all steps would be taken to curb pollution from the coal-based thermal plant of Udupi Power Corporation Ltd. (UPCL).
The swamiji told presspersons here that a delegation under the leadership of Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel met him on Monday and informed him of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa’s assurance to take action.
Muslims’ support
Muslims belonging to seven villages such as Padubidri, Hejmady, Palimar, Inna, Mudrangady, Yermal and Uchila coming under the Zonal Muslim Jamaat Federation (Valaya Muslim Jamaat Okkoota) observed fast and offered prayers to protest against the alleged pollution caused by the coal-based thermal power plant of Udupi Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL), here on Monday.
