It is but rare that one comes across a young person in modern times who would not only be willing to join priesthood but choose a faraway country as a field of missionary activity. However, incidentally, I was amazed to know that one priest, a native of Moodubelle has come on holidays from Brazil and wanted to know about him and the country where he has been serving as a missionary. Hence, I made it a point to fix an appointment with Fr.Edward Fernandes and have detailed interaction with him so as to know about his formative years, training as a priest and his missionary service in Brazil.

Udupi: ICYM Moodubelle Unit celebrates Ruby Jubilee hosting Diocesan level ‘Yuva Konkani Festh’
The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) Moodubelle Unit celebrated fortieth anniversary (Ruby Jubilee) of its foundation on Sunday, 8 February 2015 with the Udupi Diocesan Level ‘Yuva Konkani Festh’ from 9 am to 5 pm with holy mass, grand procession, innovative inauguration, varieties of competition, appreciative valedictory function and declaration of winners. Around 700 ICYM members representing different parishes into five deaneries participated in the ‘Yuva Konkani Festh’.

The Centenary of Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva was celebrated on Saturday, 31 January 2015 in a memorable manner with solemn thanksgiving mass offered by four Bishops-Most Rev. Dr. Aloysisu P. D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore as the chief celebrant, Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi, Most Rev. Dr. Antony Fernandes, retired Bishop from Bareily and Most Rev. Dr. Pius D’Souza, Bishop of Ajmer along with Msgr. Batist Menezes, Vicar General of Udupi, Rev. Fr. Riachard Coelho, former parish priest of Shirva.
Shirva: Historic Horekanike Procession marks the beginning of Centenary celebration of Our Lady of Health Church
The unprecedented historic Horekanike procession on Thursday, 29 January 2015 from 4 pm to 6pm marked the commencement of the Centenary celebration of Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva. There was overwhelming participation by not only the parishioners of Shirva but also from other parishioners within the Shirva Varado and also from neighbouring parishes such as Moodubelle and Udupi. Other organizations such USWAS from Dubai, SWAK from Kuwait and Tempo and Rickshaw Owners and Drivers Association and individuals also participated in the horekanike procession.

As the Church dedicated to Our Lady of Health at Shirva-the Mother Parish of Belle, Mudarangadi, Shankerpura, Pernal, Pamboor, Kalatthur and Yermal, completes a century of its inauguration and blessing by the then Bishop of Mangalore, Most Rev. Paul Perini on 9 February 1915, it would be interesting to know the historical background of the foundation of the church.The origin of Christianity in South Kanara comprising of the present districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada. Udupi/M’Belle: Christmas celebrated with solemnity and gaiety
Solemnity and gaiety marked the celebration of Christmas in St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle on the evening of 24 December 2014. The atmosphere in the church and surrounding premises was befitting the celebration of the great feast of the birth of Jesus. The main altar was aesthetically decorated; the facade of the church was pleasingly illuminated and next to the newly built grotto was the laboriously assembled crib.

Travelogue: an amazing Experience of Niagara Falls
This summer I had an opportunity see and feel Niagara Falls. First I happened to visit Canada side of it. Two weeks later we traveled from Maryland to Niagara of US side and spent two days and fortunate to see Niagara by night under the colorful lights. Niagara Falls originates from glaciers and is a collective name for three waterfalls (Horseshoe Falls, American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls) at the international boarder of Canada and USA.
