Na kha-unga, nakhanedoonga (I will not eat, nor will I let others eat).Narendra Modi’s lofty announcements to Indian diaspora in USA, Australia and Canada sound hollow within a fortnight of his completing one year in office. I Am Backing Greece
Greece is a member state of European Economic Community (EEC) since 1981. In 1993, member states of ECC formally became European Union (EU). But, EU did not have a common currency. Greece, like other member states, had its own national currency drachma and central bank. In 1999, EU implemented European Common Currency Mechanism. Its European Central Bank (ECB) headquarters in Brussels issued a new currency called Euro. Greece completed withdrawal of drachma from circulation at a swap rate of 340.75 to 1 Euro by 1st January 2001.. [By Philip Mudartha]
The Empire Strikes Back
BJP is not INC. No doubt, INC had been the refuge of ruling classes. Indira Gandhi was an aberration. Rajiv Gandhi onwards, all Congress-led governments have compromised. The result is a phenomenon called crony capitalism. The scourge is corruption scandals. In state capitals, the leftist governments in Kerala and West Bengal as well as those by state parties (Samajwadi Party, Janata Dal, both offspring of DMK, etc.) have made compromises with the ruling classes even as proclaiming themselves as pro-poor and economically disadvantaged.. In the fast paced modern world when people consider themselves lucky to live beyond 70 years and consider each passing year as the ‘bonus’ from the Almighty God and many a times have to take the support of medicines and regular hospitalization, meeting a person who is 106 years old and still in good physical and mental health manifesting contentment and peace is something just unimaginable.
