In the past, I used to loiter around downtown Manama and peek into those clubs and sanghas looking for potrade and Udipi vegetarian dishes during my brief visits to Bahrain. In the future, I will head to BV club asking if they need a literary secretary...:D.
Keep smiling, enjoying and registering bachelor men and single women on work visas who may live isolated or are not regular church-goers.
And please do not drive if you have had some drinks on the house. Take a bleep taxi! :( sorry, I am a spoilsport:(

She will be remembered for decades and her ideas will be studied for centuries.
She impacted not only domestic but global politics. When India opposed her war policy on Falklands, I began to understand how her values systems and convictions, from which her policies stemmed. A true Iron Lady.

Vinod and Santhosh, please take opinion of common man those approached Ivan for getting some job done. You may change your opinion. May be for the same reason Congress wants to avoid future headache. According to many people in Mangalore anyone contest against Ivan would win. JR Lobo is experienced adminstrator, clever and corruption free candidate. JR lobo has better chances of winning compared to other ticket aspirants of Congress. JR lobo will not show silly behaviour against party unity.

Unfortunately BJP is utterly failed in the administration. You don't find even single good and capable leader to lead in front. Now Again BJP is banging for another chance? What they have a golden opportunity of ruling Karnataka about 5years. what did they do? What development they made? Only attacks, strikes and communal violence and now another chance to ruin our state? Ruling Karnataka in that matter even India..BJP KI BAS KI BAAT NAHI.

It was awesome to watch a nail biting end to the match. Great win for the Sunrisers Hyderabad against a star studded RCB. Sunrisers are weak in batting without Dhawan. But they have become Giant killers by fully exploiting limited available talent. Good to see the underdogs Sunrisers perform so well.

Dear Alphonse, timely article to coincide with the 109th monthly Psychiatric camp. The success of Rotary Shankerpura is the team work of dedicated members of around 15, who spend their valuable time on worthy social causes. I wish the current president Mr. Denzil and his team all the best including the evergreen team members, Antony D sa, Stany Rodrigues, Dr. Edward Lobo, Edward Mendonca, Francis D sa, Henry Castelino, Nagesh, Naveen, Vincent Saldanha Mark Vaz, Elias Monis, Valerian and not to forget Ivan. I have personally involved with Rotary Shankerpura for quite some time now and wish them all the best in all their future activities. Our help and support is always there with them.

I began constituency-wise studies on voter behavior and preferences for twin coastal districts. I will be indebted to readers if they can provide critical information such as numbers of registered and likely voters in this constituency, and community-wise, caste-wise, and other ethnicity-wise breakdown of these numbers. It is interesting to find out why Congress has reserved it for Catholic contestants since my days in the city in the late sixties. It is also interesting to find out how BJP snatched victories four consecutive times with a Brahmin candidate? And so on...

Congratulations! Rahul Sharad Dravid. A well deserved award and recognition from the Government of India. The Wall was arguably the most technically correct modern day batsman, a true gentleman of the game. He was always a sportsman, even when others may have lost their rag, he stood as a mentor to all aspiring sportsmen and women around the globe .I am proud and glad that I had an opportunity to be a Cricket s enthusiasts in his time. It s all because of him and few great cricketers like him. The most selfless cricketer India has seen in recent times. His contribution to Indian cricket is immense.

Vinod, sitting in USA you may not be knowing ground reality. Please do not under estimate noble person like JR Lobo and his credibility of a mountain. Congress has chosen a wise Man for the job rather than a losing candidate without any bright image. Please do not be under he impression that all youth are great leaders and non corrupt.

Thanks Alphs for highlighting the work of Shankerapura Rotarians. During my visit I had the opportunity of speaking to couple of Rotarians. In addition to various humanitarian work, they also help in providing education to the poor children of our society irrespective of cast and creed. I also agree with Charles that ˜Antany" (Antony D'Sa Stany Rodrigues) are one of the strong pillars of not only of Rotary but also of the entire community. Good luck Guys!!!

Nothing against J R Lobo, but why Congress decides to plant candidates from nowhere come election season and then rue they don't have grass root workers after suffering defeat? Rahul Gandhi had asked to give priority to loyal workers when he visited Maharashtra recently. On one hand Rahul Gandhi talks about building grass root democracy; at the same time Congress gives assembly ticket to someone who just joined Congress less than year ago. Now one pertinent question here: does J R Lobo have enough support in his own party? Does the party consult local existing leaders before making such appointment? We need good leaders and not just Christian leaders as tokenism. J R Lobo may yet turn out to be one such leader, but the process of giving assembly ticket lacks clarity and breeds doubts in the minds of congress workers. Ivan D'Souza has been the face of Congress party in Mangalore, and denying ticket to Ivan is nothing but injustice to his hard work.

I fully agree with Wasim Akram s request to BCCI to allow Pakistani Cricket players to participate in IPL. We should not mix up the politics with sports, until and unless it is really warranted for. Involvement of good foreign cricketers and particularly from Pakistan will definitely give more impact of IPL matches with elevation for true sportsman spirit. Hence it is high time to look into the matter and allow Pakistan cricketers to participate. If BCCI can allow Pakistani umpires, commentators and coaches to feature in the ongoing sixth edition of the IPL then why not the Cricketer's!

Very Good selection and strong statement from the selection committee showing doors for the non performing senior cricketers in the team barring the mystery behind Pujara s omission! In a way, it is sensible that Pujara has been left out. We saw that he had not fully recovered from the knee and finger injuries that he had sustained during the Australian series. Now the curtains are coming slowly down on Zaheer, Sehwag and Harbhajan I don t think they will get a chance again in the future to play ODI s. Sad that Pujara missed out in the list of probables and I believe he should get a chance to prove his creditability in ODI also in the near future.

Except for Gayle, there was no match winner on either side. Without Malinga, MI s bowling looks pedestrian. Ideally, after sending back the top three with 30-odd runs on the board, they should have restricted the RCB well below 140. Also, Ricky Ponting missed the trick of putting pressure on Gayle and taking him out. Although much criticized, the experienced openers did well for MI when it was required to negate any movement from RCB bowlers at the beginning. Not so good beginning for both the sides, though some positives for RCB in the form of Gayle and Vinay Kumar who yet again showed his experience at the death.

Good article dear Alphonse. Rotary club Shankerapura doing really a good Job. I feel I must mention some of the pillars of this club whom I know personally. Dr. Edward Lobo, Antony DSa, Stany DSa and Edward Mendonca (Forgive me if I have missed any known persons). They are really pillars of this club made with special alloy which is yet to be named. I still doubt from where Dr. Edward Lobo is getting his energy to do the social service ..!!!!. I must say he is a Doctor I admire because of his Humanitarian Attitude. He has served in our village coming from Mangalore and took our village as his own (God sent Doctor). He is ready see the patients even at 2 am in the night (I have experienced this). I must salute him for his service along with other my friends.
