Moodubelle, 29 Jun 2012: “Do not imitate and copy others. We would not like to see another Salman Khan or another Aishwarya Rai. Instead be a better version of yourselves….” Said Prof. Vincent Alava, Associate Professor in Department of English from Milagres College, Kallianpur while conducting the Orientation Course for the First Year B.A. and B.Com students of St. Lawrence College, Moodubelle on Wednesday, June 27, 2012.
For two hours at a stretch from 1.30 to 3.30 pm, Prof. Vincent Alva held the students and staff members of St. Lawrence College, Moodubelle spellbound with motivational lecture with ample examples and anecdotes. Prof. Vincent Alva, made the orientation course so interesting that there was never a dull moment throughout the duration of the orientation course.
In the course of the lecture, Prof. Vincent Alva said that he was greatly influenced by the preaching of Matthew Kelly. In his famous book “The Rhythm of Life” Matthew Kelly states that when making important life decisions, the number one question to ask is: “Will this make me a better version of myself?” This book suggests that one should make decisions that will take him or her from ‘being good to being great’. Life is short. Hence, it is important that each one should aspire to be the best version of oneself and take oneself from good to great.
By narrating the incidents from the lives of great personalities such as Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda, Mother Theresa, A.P. J. Abdul Kalam , Baba Amte and Jessica Cox, Prof. Vincent made the entire lecture lively, interesting and inspiring. He even dramatized and used voice modulation to make the entire orientation course quite effective.
Prof. Vincent Alva made an appeal to the students to read inspiring books such as Mahatma Gandhi’s “Experiment with Truth” and “Connect the Dots’ by Rashmi Bansal.
Atlast we have degree college in our village. happy news, same time this is a challenge to staff members and students,to deliver the quality, may almighty grant them all positive things in their mission, once again thanks to Mr. Vincent alva for his support and gauidance.
