Udupi, 30 August 2011: NH-17 land acquisition sufferer’s committee once again made it clear that they will not allow to acquire 60 meter width of land with the excuse of four lane road for any reason. Speaking in the press conference on Monday Committee Convener Ramdas Nayak said that, during 1960 national highway construction 40 – 45 meter wide land has been acquired. But the NH-17 is being constructed with four lanes, for which 23.5 meter width is sufficient. But the 45 meter width is already in the possession of the central government NH department, therefore if they just use it, then there is no problem to the people and we do not have any objection to it, he said.
The rules shall be the same at every corner of the nation. But when it comes to widening of the roads in Udupi, D.K., Kerala and Goa highways different rules are being followed. In Kerala and Goa with 40 – 45 meter width of land acquisition four lane roads have been constructed. But in the 76 km length NH-17 which passes through Udupi district, in 7 km length the four lane has been constructed with 45 meter width, but in the other places the notice has been issued for acquiring 60 meter width land. Why such partiality, he questioned.
Whatever it is, we will not allow for such partiality, already those who are loosing the land have appealed in the court. So there is no looking back from the fight. NH Authority have to give the justice, he said. In the press conference the office bearers D.M. Shetty, Panduranga Kini, Anantha Shyanubhag, Wilfred Fernandes and others were present.
