Nanthur-Talapady 4-lane works to start within 2 months

• New buses will not get permit to ply within city limits, says DC

Mangalore, 19 September 2010: As the four-laning of Nanthur-Talapady work is going to begin within two months and with the increase in the density of traffic, permits for new buses can not be given within the City limits, said Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj.

 

Speaking at the RTA meeting here on Saturday, he said Comprehensive Transport and Traffic Plan (CTTP) is being prepared for the City.

 

The traffic system in the city will change once the CTTP is completed. A meeting with the stakeholders will be convened at the earliest.

 

The four-laning of Nanthur-Talapady will commence soon. There would be disruption in the movement of vehicles during the four-laning work. The density of vehicles will also increase, he added.

 

In Baikampady and Ullal bridge region, the density of vehicles would be more than that of its capacity. Hence, the new permits for the buses to ply to the City will create problems.

 

Stating that there was no problem in issuing permits for the running of new buses to rural areas, the DC said the density of vehicles are more on M G Road, PVS, Jyothi, Balmatta, Kankanady and Pumpwell. To avoid the density of the vehicles, the traffic system in the city limits will be divided into four separate zones. “We have plans to have one way traffic in some areas.

 

“Even the City and Service bus stand will be shifted to Pumpwell which will reduce the traffic in the city limits. There are plans to go for four-laning of Falnir road.”

 

“Till the four-laning of the work is complete, one way traffic will be in force on Falnir road,” he informed.   The Deputy Commissioner had recently cancelled the permits of those buses which failed to operate even after obtaining the permits in the district.

 

Those who had taken the permits had appealed before the Court and asked for reviewing the cancellation of permits.

 

The RTA decided to review 178 such applications as per the direction of the Court. Of the 178 applications, 50 applications were heard on Saturday.

 

‘Traders ready to shift ’
About 70 per cent of the merchants have agreed to shift retail business in Central Market area to APMC yard in Baikampady. About 30 per cent have expressed opposition to the same.  The decision will be taken after holding a detailed discussion, said Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj.  Speaking to presspersons, he said “there is no change in the stand of the district administration in banning the movement of heavy vehicles to Central Market region. In spite of issuing a notification to ban the entry of heavy vehicles, they enter the city limits. Hence, barricades will be laid in the important places to ban the entry of heavy vehicles.”
