Mangalore, 13 December 2010: The prestigious Rachana Awards instituted by Rachana, Catholic Chamber of Commerce & Industry, will be presented to five distinguished personalities for their contribution in various fields, on December 19 2010 at a colorful function at the Milagres Jubilee Hall, Mangalore.

Ivan Fernandes
RACHANA NRI Entrepreneur of the year – Mr. Ivan Fernandes, Dubai (IT Professional & Entrepreneur)
Mr. Ivan Fernandes is an IT wizard owning an IT Co. DUCONT. Ducont is a clear leader in mobile banking and commerce in the Middle East and has over 50 banks using its technology in addition to several governments and Telecom Companies. He is the recipient of various awards namely
- Hind Rattan Award’ in 2006 by the NRI Society.
- ‘Young Entrepreneur Award’ in 2008 by Federation of Konkani Catholic Association, Bangalore.
- ‘Pearl Award’ in 2009 by TECOM the Dubai Government Entity.

Pascal Alan Nazareth
RACHANA Professional of the year – Mr. Pascal Alan Nazareth, Bangalore (Former Ambassador of India & Author). Mr. Pascal Alan Nazareth has served for 35 years in Indian Foreign Service, in India’s diplomatic and consular missions in many countries. He is the founder and Managing Trustee of Sarvodaya International Trust which is dedicated to promoting Gandhian values of truth, peace, non-violence, communal harmony and humanitarian service. He is the author of the book “Gandhi’s Outstanding Leadership”. In recognition of his dedicated and outstanding services in promoting Gandhian ideals, in 2007, he was the recipient of the prestigious U THANT PEACE AWARD.
Mr. Richard Rebello
RACHANA Agriculturist of the year – Mr. Richard Rebello, Heroor, Kundapur (Innovative Agriculturist)
Mr. Richard Rebello is the owner of A.R. Farms. He has transformed a ”barren hillock” to a beautiful farm by implementing innovative methods of Rain Water Harvesting and Manure Management. He has also implemented modern methods of poultry, dairy and beekeeping. He constantly endeavours to preserve rare species of fruit bearing plants & horticultural crops. His mission is to preserve ‘Mother Earth’ and to improve the quality of our environment in this age of global warming.
Vincent C. Koland
RACHANA Entrepreneur of the year – Mr. Vincent C. Koland, Mangalore (Partner of Nautilus Engineering & Construction Company). The Company in which Mr. Vincet C. Koland is a partner, exports Port & Terminal Equipments from Mangalore to various countries abroad. Their specialty product of Marine Towing Hooks is being used by all five major Ship yards of India. His company is the only company in India doing this unique business in the marine off shore field with regular International sales.
Flavia Agnes
RACHANA Outstanding Woman of the year – Ms. Flavia Agnes, Mumbai (Social Activist and Advocate)
Ms. Flavia Agnes is the co-founder of Majlis, a Mumbai based Centre for Rights Discourse. She is a women’s rights advocate and a public intellectual. A pioneer of the women’s movement, she has worked consistently for over twenty five years on issues of gender and law reforms. She has published numerous books and also written many articles for various news papers and magazines. Some of the significant publications are ‘Law and Gender Inequality’, ‘Women and Law’ and the ‘Politics of Personal Laws in India’. She produced the film ‘I live in Behrampada’ which won the prestigious Indian Film Fare Awards and a Documentary ‘A Woman’s Place’ was produced based on her work of defending Women’s Rights.
