23 Feb 2016: Ever since plastics were discovered, it has been used in cell phones, computers, IV bags, aircrafts and many huge industries. Its routine uses are immense, but plastic has a dark side. Plastic waste creates havoc on our environment, eco system.Plastic is very long lived product. The amount of plastic produced, in the first ten years of this century, is near to the amount it produced in the entire last century. So the amount of waste left behind is also alarming.
How can we make use of this damaging waste into a boon to the humanity? Can we make PLASTIC SOLAR BULB from waste plastic bottles? How?
Using simple materials, such as plastic waste bottle, bleach, filtered water and a solar panel, abundant free sun light and a bulb, we can light up our room with electricity.
The discarded plastic bottles are filled with filtered water and 10 ml of chlorine. The chlorine prevents the growth of fungus and reflects light uniformly. When this model is fixed to the metallic roof of the house, the abundant sun’slight gets reflected through chlorine water and illuminates the room. But this model becomes useless in the night, since there is no sunlight.
Hence, I fixed a 5 volts solar panel to a 3 watt bulb and charged for 12 hours by keeping it in the sunlight. I then fixed the solar panel on a support & immersed the bulb into the plastic bottle after taking precautions to make the bulb water-proof.
This gave an illumination of 25 watts for 1 hour. But if a 24 volts solar panel is used it can give anillumination of up to 50 watt bulb.
This is a humble beginning, when power generation costs are huge and also damage our environment. Its advantages are plenty and no harmful pollutants ever produced. Most importantly, it can be used in places deprived of electricity. Let’s give a thought to his novel GREEN IDEA. We can certainly contribute to the humanity with my good work.
My green ideas are centered on certain simple principles.
• To motivate my fellow kids to contribute to a better peaceful green living.
• To stress the concept of sustainability through re-use of dangerous plastic waste.
I thank BELLEVISION MEDIA, for giving publicly to my work.
