Udupi: Aati delicacies have health benefits - S Raviraj

Udupi, 04 Aug 2014: ‘Our ancestors food habits, traditional living, beliefs and folk arts are gone oblivion, while the new generation of children are used to fast food and ready-to-eat snacks thereby gradually taking a toll on their health.  The ancestors were savoring varieties of delicacies prepared out of leafy vegetables, seeds, flowers, bark, roots, etc besides different curries, snacks, gruel etc that has health benefits, mental bliss and long life, said senior teacher Paniyoor Sharavati Raviraj.

 

Raviraj was speaking after inaugurating Aati Sambrama – 2014 that was organized by Shirva Mahila Mandala, here on Saturday August 3.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Raviraj said that he is working on a book that will have info of preparing 110 different delicacies of Aati month, which will be released shortly.  It will have method to prepare each delicacy and health benefits, said Raviraj.    He also urged the mothers to prepare such delicacies throughout Aati month, instead of just one day, in order to educate their children to foster Tulunadu culture, urged Raviraj.

 

 

Shirva gram panchayat president Hassanabba Shaikh in his presidential address recalled fond memories of Aati delicacies that were prepared by his grandmother. He also appreciated the huge gathering of women who have brought different varieties of Aati delicacies to share it with the gathering.

 

The public celebration of Ganeshotsav Committee president K Sundar Prabhu was present at the dais.

 

The condolences were offered to the untimely demise of Mahila Mandala active member Radhika Balakrishna who passed away on Friday August 1.

 

Mahila Mandala president Babita Jagdish Aras welcomed the gathering.  The secretary Malati Ananta Mudittaya read the report.  Jayasri J Shetty compered the programme. The treasurer Shweta G Prabhu assisted in the programme.  Sumati Jayaprakash Suvarna proposed vote of thanks.

 

The varieties of Aati dishes were shared with hundreds of members and guests on the same occasion.
