Udupi : Shankarapura Jasmine Jaycees organizes ‘Aatidonji Koota’

Udupi, 31 July 2013 : Over a century ago, it was during ‘Aati’ month that was observed in Tulunadu, was a relaxed month in peak monsoon.  There were no modern facilities during those days.  None of them thought, some day TV, mobiles, computers and internet will pose threat to our culture.  It was during Aati month, incessant rains would make the people go venture out of their houses and all the way making difficult to organize religious or get-togethers, because by that time they have completed seasonal farming activities and have enough time to be engaged in chatting, oldies sharing stories, indoor games, sharing old adage, singing folk songs, singing devotional songs, sharing the intrinsic values of mythological texts, sharing community bond with neighbours and relatives..!  It was during those days, the coastal residents would prepare variety dishes from different wild produce, shrubs and herbs and enjoy the delicacies sharing with each other.   They enjoyed good health too…!  This is how; the veteran teacher and intellect B Pundalika Marate narrated the interesting aspects of rural life during Aati month.


Marate was speaking during ‘Aatidonji Koota’ that was organized on the rooftop of Corporation Bank branch of Shankarapura, near here on Tuesday July 30.  It was organized by Shankarapura Jasmine Jaycees.

 

 

Marate explained the daily life of agrarian families of those times and also revealed the secret of their good health..!  He also explained the medicinal values in the different delicacies that were prepared by various household families that were brought to share among themselves during the occasion.  He urged ‘Aatidonji Dina, such programmes ought to be organized in every school and colleges that has great significance to new generation, urged Marate.

 

Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP), Udupi Nagajagruti Samiti president Naveen Amin, rural development Committee president Rajesh Innanje, the members of self-help-groups promoted by SKDRDP wee present at the occasion.

 

JCI past president Dinesh Acharya, designated president Sampat Suvarna were present at the dais. 

 


JCI president Praveen Rodrigues welcomed the gathering.  Anil D’Sa introduced the guests. The secretary Sylvia Castelino proposed vote of thanks.

 

Twenty-three different delicacies of Aati month was shared by all at the occasion.
