Mangalore, 18 Feb 2014: It’s irony that the major national political party in the world’s biggest democracy does not follow the democratic principles. The reigning Congress party in the Centre has become a burden on the nation, alleged Gujarat CM and BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi.
Addressing a mega gathering at Nehru maidan, here on Tuesday February 18 at 3.00pm, as part of ‘Bharata Gellisi,’ campaign of BJP, Modi lashed out at Congress for taking the economy of the nation on the brink of bankruptcy during its several decades long rule in the nation. ‘The youth are jobless, the farmers are committing suicide and the women are struggling to save their honor,’ it’s the pathetic plight of the nation, Modi lamented.
Modi further said that Congress has been cheating the people through lies, false slogans and promises. The Congress government has no genuine concern to work for the welfare of the people, said Modi. He alleged that the Congress has ruined the nation.
Commenting on recent pepper-spray incident in Lok Sabha, Modi said, ‘Congressmen who were used to throw dust on people’s eyes for all these years, used the pepper-spray in Lok Sabha when the proceedings were under way, so that their misdeeds are covered up.
Modi who was aware of problems faced by areca growers in undivided Dakshina Kannada district, said, ‘Every time, the areca growers of the region faced problems, either due to slump in prices or any other reasons, a local delegation had visited Gujarat recently in this regard. We have tried our best to help them, but its essential that a permanent solution to the problems of growers had to be found through a definite policy,’ said Modi.
Modi was felicitated by placing a Mysore headgear, a portrait of Sardar Vallabhabai Patel, garlanding a shawl.
The iron bits that were collected towards the proposed Statue of Unity Project were handed over by Committee convener Bharat Shetty, Padmanabha Kottari and others. NaMo Brigade leader Naresh Shenoy and Chakravarti Soolibele presented a conch placed on an arecanut to Modi.
The former Karnataka CMs D V Sadanand Gowda and B S Yeddyurappa, Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, BJP district president Pratapsimha Nayak, the former Karnataka state minister C T Ravi and others were present on the occasion.
BJP Karnataka state president Prahlad Joshi welcomed the gathering.
