Mangalore: Writers Dialogue in Raknno Writers’ Convention

Mangalore, 4 Nov 2013: More than 130 Konkani writers and editors of Konkani journals dialogued together in Konkani Writers’ Convention organized by ‘Raknno,’ Konkani Illustrated Weekly at Bishop’s House, here on Sunday November 3 as part of its platinum jubilee celebrations.
Mangalore diocesan vicar general Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu inaugurated the Convention and released the Konkani book ‘Chiknni Mothiya’ (Little Pearls) of William Kumar Kinnigoli, published by Kalasagar Publications of Navin Kulshekar.
Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu in his inaugural address, said, ‘Writing and sharing of knowledge through it is a gift of God which has to be used for the growth of humanity and betterment of the society. Many have used this gift through Raknno. Laity and religious together have contributed to the growth of Raknno during the past 75 years. Raknno has enriched the Konkanni language. Let us use our talent of writing and let us share our knowledge,’ said Monsignor Denis.
The convention included informatory and open discussion sessions on the role and responsibility of editors, feature articles, being a good reader and letters to the editor. Editors of different Konkani Journals and writers from South Canara and neighbouring districts participated in the convention.
The exhibition of books and magazines was held during the convention. Well known Konkani writers and linguists Melvyn Pinto, Dolphi Cascia, J F D’Souza Attavar and Eddie Netto were the resource persons.
Vally Vagga, renowned Konkanni writer from Mysore led discussions and dialogue session. Well known writer Fr Maxim Rosario (Major Kuppepadav,) the local organizer welcomed the gathering.
Writers Ancy Paladka, Wilma Bantwal, Dolphy Saldanha, Irene Castelino and Vincy Pinto introduced the resource persons.
Raknno editor Fr Francis Rodrigues delivered the introductory address. Raknno platinum jubilee celebration Committee convener Cyril G Sequeira proposed vote of thanks. Vithori Karkal compered the programme.
