Mangalore: National Seminar on HR as Strategic Business Partner underway at St Aloysius College

Mangalore, 01 Oct, 2013 : The department of business banagement, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), in association with Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), conducted a national level, one-day seminar on Human Resource (HR) as a Strategic Business Partner at Eric Mathias Hall, here on Tuesday October 1.
Mamatha, the dean of department of business management welcomed the gathering of nearly 400 people.
KCCI former president Mohandas Prabhu was the chief guest of the occasion.
The other dignitaries included the St Aloysius education institutions rector Fr Denzil Lobo, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) principal Fr Swebert D’Silva, the registrar Professor A M Narahari and the staff coordinators Chetan Shettigar, Arathi Sharma and Coral Barboza.
Students from 15 colleges were in attendance at the programme.
The main objective of the seminar was put forward by Chetan Shettigar who insisted the relevance of the topic in today’s global context.
Prabhu in his address, called Human Resource ‘a redefined version of work force’. He also recalled the prime example of strategic partnership in rural areas as being the bidi business that often involves the entire family. Special mention was made of the entrepreneurship qualities of late TMA Pai who was responsible for the establishment of the Syndicate Bank and the popular pigmy deposit scheme. Another underlying issue that was highlighted was the ‘heart for social causes’ that Prabhu finds lacking in the present industrial scenario. He also brought to light the monopoly of International Multi Retail Brands’ over the Indian market and its effect on farmers. However, his address ended on a light note with an invitation to the students of St Aloysius College to visit the KCCI, in an attempt to gain exposure by interacting with practicing professionals in specific lines of work.
Fr Swebert D’Silva emphasized the importance of priorities when dealing with business issues. Also, he asserted that well equipped, satisfied and well motivated employees are the main factors in determining efficiency of human resource. He also stressed business ethics being another necessity for long term success.
Fr Denzel Lobo brought forth the essence of creativity in Industry in his presidential address. He pointed out the role of change in the development of technology. ‘Illiterates are those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn,’ he affirmed.
