Mangalore, 15 Sep 2013: The titular feast of Our Lady of Sorrows was celebrated today September 15th with solemnity in Codialbail Chapel of Bishop’s House, which is generally known as Irmiz in the Catholic history of Mangalore. Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the Bishop of the Diocese of Mangalore celebrated the festal Eucharist while more than 30 priests concelebrated in the Mass.

‘The Mother of Sorrows or Our Lady of Dolours is the patroness of Codialbail Chapel (Irmiz). The sorrows of Mother Mary were because of the way of the Cross of Jesus for the sins of others. The sorrows and difficulties of life give the meaning to life. Generally there are four types of sorrows and difficulties we face. Firstly they are caused by our own mistakes, secondly by the mistakes of others, thirdly the cause of the difficulties  is unknown and the last type of difficulties are faced on our way of doing good to others.  The cross of Jesus and the sorrows of Mary are of the fourth type. Seven sorrows of Mary teach us seven important lessons for our life’ said Fr Prakash Monteiro, the director of Post Graduation department of Puttur St Philomena College in the homily.

The Bishop honoured the founders and donors of the chapel. Fr John Vas, the Procurator and Chaplain thanked everyone. Msgr Denis Prabhu, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Mangalore, Msgr Leslie Shenoy and many other Diocesan officials concelebrated during the Mass.

Msgr Denis Prabhu, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Mangalore, Fr Henry Sequeira, the Chancellor, Fr William Menezes, the PRO, Fr Valerian Menezes, the Judicial Vicar, Fr J.B.
