An Appeal to save Kiran Rahul
An Appeal to save Kiran Rahul
Terence Fernandes, a taxi driver by profession and his wife Wilma Fernandes were leading a happy and satisfied life until the fateful day of August 11, 2013. On this day, their lives took an abrupt turn .Their young son, Kiran Rahul Fernandes, aged 9 years was bit by a venomous viper (Kandodi). Kiran was playing outdoors in the vicinity of his house. He felt something bit his leg and he jumped through the fencing wall to reach his house. After reaching home, Kiran fainted. His parents did not know about the bite yet, but Terry and Wilma immediately rushed him to KMC, Manipal. Initial diagnosis concluded that Kiran was fine, nevertheless the doctors asked Terry to keep Kiran under observation for the night.

Subsequently his leg began swelling and the doctors finally diagnosed Kiran’s situation as a snake bite case. By this time, the venom had spread and the doctors had to amputate Kiran’s leg, to prevent further spreading of the venom. Today, as you are reading this, Kiran is clinging onto his life courageously in the Intensive care Unit at Manipal. The doctors opine that they cannot say anything for the next 3 months and they cannot guarantee his recovery since the venom has affected his body badly. Staring at his leg which is no more there, tears roll down Kiran’s cheeks, but in spite of this, Kiran is showing extraordinary will power to stay alive.
Terence and Wilma live in a small house at Thottam, not very far from Udupi. Every parent desires their children the best possible life and the same goes with Terry and Wilma. They have already spent 2.5 lakhs on Kiran’s medication and are in need of financial help to keep the medication on. 40 bottles of blood has already been replaced and Kiran might need more. The only way to keep Kiran alive is to keep him on constant medication in the ICU for the next three months.
We humbly appeal to all our readers to help Terry and Wilma save their only kid Kiran from the jaws of death. They are in a difficult phase in their life and need our support both financially and emotionally. Please do help and remember Kiran in your prayers, so that we can see him come out of this ordeal fit and fine.
