Kundapur : Ace Swimmer Gopal Karvi Plans 2nd Attempt for Guinness Record

Kundapur, 31 July 2013: Gopal Karvi, a native of Kodi – Kanyana, near Sastan, here who created history in Limca Book of Records, by swimming from St Mary’s Island to Malpe beach by fastening his legs and hands with chains securing it on his back; has faced technical difficulty on his quest to create Guinness Record.  Despite the setbacks, Gopal has been determined to once again attempt during December.

 

 

 

 

Missed Guinness attempt:

Gopal has attempted to create Gunness Record during January 2012, by swimming 9 kilometer distance between St Mary’s Island to Malpe beach by fastening his hands and feet secured to his back in 2.45:14 and waited for the instructions from the authorities of Guinness Book of World Records in this regard.  Gopal was shocked to find a recent reply from authorities of Guinness advising him to reattempt.  As per the instructions of Guinness authorities, the government officers witnessed the attempt and high definition camera recorded the marvelous feat.

 

  The majority of newspapers including TV channels reported the achievement. Gopal missed the record over technical reason that he was not equipped with GPS camera while on his attempt, along with it a few lac of rupees that he had spent on his attempt gone in vain.

 

Meanwhile, Gopal has not given up his hope; instead it has strengthened his will power to achieve Guinness Record.  This time around, he will invite the authorities of Guinness from London and make an attempt by swimming from St Mary’s Island to Malpe beach, in their presence during December 2013.

 

Gopal is the son of Nagesh and Radha couple, residing at Kodi – Kanyana, Sastan, near here.  Although he had great interest in studies, he could not pursue studies owing to acute poverty that had forced him to fisheries.  Presently, he is running a goods auto rickshaw, but determined to achieve Guinness Record.

 

Meanwhile, Gopal’s friends in his native village, formed Gopal Karvi Guinness World Record Committee to raise funds, in order to help Gopal in his second attempt to make world record.  Swami Laxmivarateerta of Shiroor mutt serves as honorary president of Committee, Annappa B Kundar as president, Rajesh N Karkera and Nityanand Borkar as secretaries.

 

Big money needed :

The tempo auto rickshaw driver Gopal needs about Rs 10.5 lac in his Guinness attempt, which is difficult for a fisheries family like Gopal who has burning desire to achieve marvelous feat.  Meanwhile, the village elders of his native including, friends and well wishers have formed Gopal Karvi Guinness World Record Committee to support Gopal in his quest.
