Mangalore: St Joseph’s Prashanth Nivas Ashram urges State Govt to Sanction Food grains to Inmates

Mangalore, 20 June, 2013 : The authorities of St Joseph’s Prashanth Nivas Ashram, run by Sisters of Charity, Jeppu, here on Thursday June 20 presented a memorandum to MLA J R Lobo, to forward the same to state government, in seeking sanctioning of food grains at BPL rates by food and civil supplies department.
St Joseph’s Prashanth Nivas Ashram exists since 130 years, sheltering and caring for more than 400 destitute including men and women, young and old abandoned by families including physically handicapped, mentally retarded and differently-abled of different castes, creed and faiths in the society.
The state authorities would sanction the food grains at BPL rate through food and civil supplies department in the past, while since a few years, the earlier regime had discontinued the supplies, despite follow ups in this regard.
The governing council of the Ashram once again pleaded MLA Lobo to restore the facility at the earliest on humanitarian grounds.
Sr Sylvia Fernandes, Sr Dorothy Saldanha and Austine Peris were present on the occasion.
