Woman ends life by jumping into Netravathi with two daughters

Mangalore, 19 June 2013: In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old woman allegedly ended her life along with her two children by jumping into the river near Thokkottu on the outskirts of city.
The victims have been identified as Mumtaz (25) from Pallamajilu, BC Road and her two daughters Fathima Nihana (8) and Khatija Naifa(5). Fathima is a Class III student while Khatija is studying UKG.
A hasty decision by a mother of five to commit suicide leaves her other three kids orphaned.
It is said that Mumtaz was married to Anwar Saddiq, who is currently working abroad. Marital differences created a rift between the two.
Mumtaz had been to her parent’s home at Hidayat Nagar, Kallapu, near Ullal as a result of the constant dispute between the couple.
Its assumed that the mother pushed her two children off the railway bridge to Netravati river and then jumped down.
The reason for the suicide has not been ascertained fully as yet, A suicide note has been recovered from the spot, wherein Mumtaz has claimed that she herself is responsible for the extreme step. A mobile phone and footwear belonging to the three was found at the spot.
As per the last information, the body of the mother and one of the two daughters has been found. Ullal Police have registered a case.
