Mangalore: State Home Minister K G George Felicitated at Bishop’s House

Mangalore, 19 Jun 2013: The state home minister K G George visited Bishop’s House here on Wednesday June 19.
Mangalore diocesan vicar general Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu felicitated minister K G George in the absence of Bishop Dr Aloysius P D’Souza at the occasion.
Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu presented a memorandum to minister K G George, urging the latter to take necessary measures to restore confidence among people by maintaining law and order in the district and at the state level. He also pleaded the minister to withdraw the pending cases filed against the Christians during the time of Church attacks in 2008. Besides, he stated that the Chairmanship of State Minority Commission should be given on rotation basis to the communities constituting the commission and to raise Christian Minority Development fund to Rs 200 crore, though Christians doesn’t look for special status they should be given equal opportunities as given to others.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA J R Lobo said that K J George after assuming the charge as home minister has already initiated steps to strengthen law and order situation of the state, said MLA Lobo.
Minister K J George assured that although he comes from a minority constituency, he will work for the welfare and security of all the people in the state. He further said that he would try to see that Christians also get equal opportunities as others. He also appreciated the selfless service rendered by the religious priests and nuns in uplifting the marginalized and oppressed regardless of caste, creed and faith in the society.
KPCC general secretary Ivan D’Souza, diocesan political wing convener M P Noronha, PRO Marcel Monteiro and others were present at the occasion.
Milagres parish priest Fr Valerian D’Souza invoked God’s blessing on the minister George. CODP director Fr Onil D’Souza compered the programme. The diocesan procurator Fr John Vaz proposed vote of thanks.
