Kaup in Udupi district records maximum rainfall in Karnataka

Mangalore, 18 Jun 2013: Kaup in Udupi taluk of Udupi district recorded maximum rainfall of 187mm in Karnataka in last 24-hours up to 8.30am on Tuesday. Yadgir hobli in Yadgir taluk in Yadgir district recorded maximum temperature of 35.4°C on June 17 at 1.15pm. Madikeri hobli in Madikeri taluk of Kodagu district recorded lowest minimum temperature of 17.3°C on June 17 at 11.45pm, VS Prakash, director, KSNDMC, Bangalore stated.


More than 90% relative humidity has been recorded in 23% geographical area in the state. Less than 25% of relative humidity has been recorded in 0% geographical area in the state. Rainfall over the state is considered scattered since 30% of hoblis and GPs recorded rainfall greater than or equal to 2.5mm. Rainfall was widespread over five districts; fairly widespread and scattered in three districts each; isolated in 14 districts and negligible in five districts.

 


Very heavy rain and heavy rain was reported in three districts each; rather heavy rain in two districts; moderate rain in nine districts; light rain in eight districts; and very light rain in five districts. South-west monsoon was active in six districts; normal in nine and weak over remaining 15 districts. Widespread, heavy to very heavy rain was received in Kodagu, Udupi, Shimoga, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts.


 
Fairly widespread, moderate to heavy rain was received in Hassan, Chikmagalur and Haveri. Scattered, moderate to rather heavy rain was received in Belgaum, Dharwad and Mysore. Isolated, light to moderate rain was received in Chikkaballapur, Koppal, Bangalore Rural, Chamarajanagar, Ramanagar, Yadgir, Mandya, Davangere, Bijapur, Chitradurga, Bangalore Urban, Tumkur, Gadag and Kolar.Dry weather prevailed in remaining parts of the state.


Karnataka for the period June 12 to June 18 recorded surplus rainfall of 33%. Against normal weighted average rainfall of 205.8mm in south-interior, north-interior, malnad and coastal parts, state recorded rainfall of 274.2mm. For 24-hours period ending 8.30am on June 18, four geographical regions received 72.7mm actual weighted average rainfall against normal weighted average rainfall of 32.2mm, a 126% surplus departure from normal.
