M’lore: Konkani Writers Forum urges State Govt to appoint Individuals with Literary Background

Mangalore, 18 Jun 2013: Konkani Writers Forum – Karnataka ® thanks CM Siddaramaiah for seeking the resignation of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Kasargod Chinna, who has not resigned despite the state order issued on May 14 for the effect of tendering resignation of state appointed chairman for Boards, Authority, Academy who were appointed by the earlier regime, said Henry Mendonca, president of Konkani Writers Forum – Karnataka ®.
Addressing the media persons during a press meet here on Tuesday June 18, Henry Mendonca urged CM Siddaramaiah not to give in to the pressures from vested interests in appointing president for Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, because in the past individuals with no literary background held the reigns of Academy. The Academy members barely attended recently held Awards ceremony held at Kumta. The requests to provide information under RTI Act by the Academy have not been honored citing lack of staff. The Forum urges to make the steering Committee responsible for the alleged misappropriation in the affairs of Academy, urged Henry.
Henry further urged the state authorities to appoint chairman for Konkani Academy with the criteria of Central Academy that the individual has to be a litterateur who has published at least 2 significant books. Because, in the past individuals without literary background were appointed who could barely contribute for the growth of Academy.
Konkani Writers Forum – Karnataka ® secretary Marcel D’Souza, joint secretary Aloysius Tony Ferros, treasurer Joachim Pinto and Committee member Violet Pereira were present at the press meet.

| Konkani Writers Forum has taken a right decision to call for the press conference and stress for right individual to lead the Konkani Sahitya Academy. Already solid lobbying going on by the business interest people to get this important post for their selfislh goals which should be stopped at all costs. It is a shame that our so called konkani organizations fighting for this post and not recognizing the right individual to lead the Konkani Sahitya academy. Persons with no literary back ground have been nominated and what konkani growth can we expect?? These konkani organizations are only show off and money making business. The post should go to the true literary persons such as Edwin JF DSouza, Melwyn Rodrigues or Valli Vagga who are veterans of the konkani literature instead it has been proposed for the business man. I hope our konkani leaders rise to thier duty and oppose this move and propose a right candidate. Well done HM you have taken a bold step and bring out ugly face of these Presidents and academy members who have been nominated by vested interests. I hope CM Siddarammaya takes the right decision in appointing the right candidate. Long live konkani. | |
