Bantwal: Young achievers honoured during Parish Day Celebrations at Infant Jesus Church, Modankap

Bantwal (Mangalore), 05 Jun 2013:  The Bantwal parishioners celebrated their Parish Day on May 11th with splendid cultural programs and a wonderful drama titled “Gurkar”.

 
The families now are very small and gone are the day when big joint families stayed together and lived happily side by side and actively involved in feasts, celebrations and wedings, everything under one roof Home.  Currently, even in the small family, hardly there is any group discussion and or talks and even family prayers as each one is busy either on mobiles, iphones, tablets or laptops.  Believe it or note, it is a very strange world now  a days and all are busy in their own world.  However, despite all these short comings and problems, the Bantwal parish managed to draw all the families along with their children and grandchildren to the parish day held at the Infant Jesus church on 11th May 2013.

 
The preparations for the parish day began early morning 6am wherein all the enthusiastic parishioners gathered at the parish hall for cooking delicious food.  All ward members of the parish took part in preparing the good from cutting Pork, and, preparing masalas, all ingredients, cutting vegetables and organizing variety of good for the parishioners to enjoy. If one side all the vessels were being cleaned and other side non-stop grinders working round the clock. It was a wonderful site to watch where all men and women work enthusiastically and having great fun and highlighted the perfect theme of the parish day:  “ Let us show Unity and be the witness of the faith “

 

 

 

The grand celebrations began at 4.00pm with the procession of elegantly dressed Gurkars and Gurkarnis (Parish Ward Leaders) accompanied by playing of traditional band.  The holy mass was concelebrated by Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Roque D’Souza, Rev. Fr. Anil D’Mello, Rev. Fr. Ivan D’Souza and Rev. Fr. Cyril Noronha and liturgical service was conducted by ward Gurkarnis.  A light refreshment was served for all congregation after the mass

 
Also on the occasion many achievers of Modankap Parishioners were honoured namely 1) Wilma Lavina D;Souza popularly known as Wilma Bantwal for her numerous Konkani articles and she recently received a Kittall Yuva Puroskar;  2) Dr.Damian D’Mello (Ph.D), 3) Dr. Priya Carlo (Ph.D), 4) Dr. Roy Frank (MBBS, MD),  5) Mr. Roshan  Celho. (International level prize in karate); 6) Miss. Gladwin Fernandes (International level prize in karate),  7) Mrs. Emerciana Rebello.(Retired Teacher. she was the headmistress of church school i.e Sacred Heart School, Thodambila for 32 years),  The following three achievers were absent on that day due to their other commitments and on behalf of them their parents received the honours namely 8) Dr.teena mendonca, 9) Dr.Prashanth Vas and 10) Dr. Glen Fernandes who are  MBBS, MDs.  The proud Modankap parishioners were pleased with their great performances and achievements honoured them with mementos for their excellence and achievements in their respective fields.

 
Rev. Fr. Roque D’Souza celebrated his 60th Birthday,  cut the cake and celebrated by distribution with parishioners.  He was honoured on behalf of parishioners on his grand birthday celebrations and wishing him all the best and God’s blessing to continue his service in the vineyard of the lord.

 
A magnificent cultural program was provided by parish youth and entertained all the parishioners gathered in large numbers.  The wonderful instrumental played by talented parishioners was applauded by the parishioners.   The final entertainment program i.e. the drama “ Gurkar “ authored and directed by Clarence Pinto, Kaikamba was staged successfully by the talented artists of the parish and was wonderfully acted and presented which received a huge round of appreciation from the audience.

 
The newly elected MLA of Bantwal  Mr. Ramanath Rai paid a surprise visit to the parish day celebrations and the parishioners wasted no time in welcoming him to the dais and honoured with floral bouquet which he thankfully reciprocated.

Finally the eagerly awaited and cooked by the parishioners themselves the delicious dinner was served and thoroughly enjoyed by all parishioners.

Sunil Louise was mc of the day and Fr. Anil D’Mello coordinated the entire program including felicitations wonderfully.
