Gold worth Rs 1.8 crore seized at Mangalore Airport

Mangalore, 16 Feb 2013: Sleuths of the directorate of revenue intelligence detected a case of illegal transshipment of six kgs of gold worth Rs 1.80 crore from a passenger on board Dubai -Mangalore Air India IX 384 flight on Saturday.
The flight landed at Mangalore International Airport at 5.30pm. Based on a tip off DRI officials detained and questioned AbrarHaqBhatkal (38). Official sources said that the accused was carrying gold ornaments concealed in chocolate wrappers.
This is touted to be the biggest seizure of the contraband goods seized MIA. DRI officials refused official comments since the case is under investigation. They are likely to issue a formal statement on Sunday.
