Udupi: Coastguard Rescues 5 Fishermen Stranded in Arabian Sea owing to Capsized Boat

Udupi, 01 Jan 2013: The coastguard police on Sunday December 30 morning rescued five fishermen who were stranded on a boulder in Arabian Sea, when their fisheries boat rammed the boulder on Saturday December 29 night.
The rescued has been identified as Vasant Mogera, Ganapati Ambika and Suresh Mogera who have gone for deep sea fishing on a mechanized boat owned by Sunil Kumar, a native of Padukare, on Saturday evening. The boat hit the boulder when it was about 9 nautical miles from Malpe fisheries jetty, on Saturday night. The fishermen tried to afloat the boat but in vain, as water began gushing into the hull; when the fishermen took refuge on the boulder. They informed the incident to boat owner, while the stranded fishermen spent overnight in sea.
The coastguard police arrived at the spot and rescued the stranded fishermen on Sunday December 30 morning. Although boat owner accompanied by others in a few boats arrived to afloat the boat; they have not succeeded in their attempt. The loss was estimated to be about Rs 45 lac.
Malpe coastguard police registered a case in this regard.
