The Diocese of Mangalore pays homage to Delhi rape victim

Mangalore, 30 Dec 2012: The Diocese of Mangalore prayed today evening in front of the Bishop’s House, Mangalore, for the repose of soul of ‘Amaanath’ (name changed), a 23 year old paramedical student who was raped and attacked in a moving bus in Delhi on the 16th of December and succumbed to death today in Singapore.
‘Amaanath is the symbol of all the victims of sexual assaults on women and is also the symbol of all those who fight against the atrocities on women across the nation. We condemn with sadness all the sexual assaults and atrocities against women which have taken place in our own place here and in all the places across the nation’ said Sabiha Boomigowda, a woman activist of the city and a lecturer.
‘We deeply mourn the death of Amaanath, we pray for all the victims of atrocities and condemn such inhuman actions’ said Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the Bishop of Mangalore. The Bishop paid flower homage and lit candle and offered prayers for the soul of Amaanath. Number of religious, social and political leaders prayed on the occasion with lighted candles.
Chancellor Fr Henry Sequeira, PRO Fr William Menezes, Fr Onil D’Souza, Fr Elias D’Souza, Fr George D’Souza, Fr Victor G. D’Souza, Marcel Monteiro, Ivan D’Souza, Sushil Noronha, Mariamma Thomas, J. R. Lobo, Sr Assumpta BS, Sr Mishel BS, Sr Stella and others were present on the occasion.
