Mumbai, 26 April 2010: In a dramatic final of the 2010, IPL-3 tournament the Chennai Super Kings scored a brilliant victory over the Mumbai Indians by 22 runs in the penultimate match that was played at the DY Patil Stadium in New Mumbai on 25th April 2010. After winning the toss the  Chennai Super Kings elected to bat and got off to a good start as the opening pair of  Mathew Hyden and Murali Vijay stabilized the innings.

Murali Vijay scored  26 runs off 19 balls  before he was caught by Saurabh Tiwary at square leg off Dilhara Fernando. Soon after Chennai received another shock when Matthew Hayden was out who could register only 17 runs out of 31 balls. He was out  caught behind the wickets by Ambati Rayudu  off  the ball of Kieron Pollard. The next batsman S Badrinath was the next victim who could score only 14 runs.

However, the captain of the Chennai Super Kings, Mahendra Singh Dhoni  and Suresh Raina stood their guard and saw to it that in spite of the initial disaster of losing three valuable wickets the total score crossed the 100-run mark in the 15th over of the inning putting up 50-run partnership in just 25 balls. However, after scoring  22 runs off 15 balls and adding 72 important  runs along with Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni was succumbed to a ball from Fernando caught by Zaheer. Suresh Raina scored brilliant 57 not out which helped in putting on board  168 runs for 5 wickets.

With a challenge of chasing 169 runs win, Mumbai suffered an early blow as Shikhar Dhawan was out in the 2nd over of the innings who was caught behind the wickets by Dhoni off Bollinger for a duck. However, Tendulkar and Abhishek Nayar took the Mumbai total past the 50-run mark in the 10th over of the innings. Nayar (27) became the second Mumbai batsman to depart from the wicket after he was brilliantly run-out off a direct hit. HarbhajanSingh who was promoted to bat at number four  did not live up to his expectation and was out lbw by Suresh Raina for  just 1run. Meanwhile, after scoring 48 runs, Tendulkar was proceeded to the pavilion  while trying to push the scoring rate who was caught by Murali Vijay at long-off off Shadab Jakati.

Saurabh Tiwary’s short stay at the wicket came to an abrupt end after he was brilliantly caught by Suresh Raina off Jakati for a duck. JP Duminy became the sixth Mumbai wicket to fall after he was caught by Jakati off Muttiah Muralitharan for 6 runs followed by the ouster of Keiron Pollard caught by Hayden off Morkel, with which ended the home of the Mumbai  team to win the championship. Thus, the Mumbai Indians could score only  to 146 runs for 9 as against 168 for 5 the Chennai Super Kings.

Congrats to CSK for being the IPL champions, eventhough my favourite IPL team is RCB. I love Cricket but surely not in a way in which Lalit Modi packed IPL(Indian Paisa League) for us. There are some reasons behind my thinking. Firstly, the financial aspects of IPL are not only murky but an eye opener for those who thought that India was a poor nation with more than forty percent population living below the poverty line. The total value of IPL, which even Mr Modi cannot predict with surety, is expected to be around 70000 crores. This unaccounted money is available to the richest people of India. The IPL also represents a lot of public funds, my and your money, which doesn’t even get noticed. Each D/N IPL match played under flood lights, consumes electricity enough to run 500 average Indian homes for a month. Secondly, IPL is a real worry to other sports like Hockey, Tennis, Badmonton, in India. If you will get a Rs. 1 lakh(surely will increase in coming years) for just taking a single catch(Some ordinary catches were intentionally made Kamal catches), who the hell wants to play other Games??? It is surely entertainment at its best, but I will be happy if it helps other fields too.

Though there are so many controversies surrounding IPL, for us the TV viewers the whole tournament was a great entertainment. In IPL 3 most of the matches were thrilling. Congratulations to Chennai Super Kings for being the Champions this year. Royal Challengers Bangalore has improvised its position and finished in third place. Looking forward to IPL 4.

The Match was Surreal..for once when the Super kings deseved to win they actually DID..Congratulations to the men in YELLOW and particularly the cool captain MSD and his men who handled pressure brilliantly! Once Sachin and Pollard, the big hitters were out, it was all over for the Mumbai Indians and rightly so it wouldn t be wrong if we said that the most CONSISTENT team througout the three seasons had finally lifted the CUP..great going Chennai, keep it UP :D
