Chennai Super Kings are the 2010, IPL-3 Champions

Mumbai, 26 April 2010: In a dramatic final of the 2010, IPL-3 tournament the Chennai Super Kings scored a brilliant victory over the Mumbai Indians by 22 runs in the penultimate match that was played at the DY Patil Stadium in New Mumbai on 25th April 2010. After winning the toss the  Chennai Super Kings elected to bat and got off to a good start as the opening pair of  Mathew Hyden and Murali Vijay stabilized the innings.

Murali Vijay scored  26 runs off 19 balls  before he was caught by Saurabh Tiwary at square leg off Dilhara Fernando. Soon after Chennai received another shock when Matthew Hayden was out who could register only 17 runs out of 31 balls. He was out  caught behind the wickets by Ambati Rayudu  off  the ball of Kieron Pollard. The next batsman S Badrinath was the next victim who could score only 14 runs.

However, the captain of the Chennai Super Kings, Mahendra Singh Dhoni  and Suresh Raina stood their guard and saw to it that in spite of the initial disaster of losing three valuable wickets the total score crossed the 100-run mark in the 15th over of the inning putting up 50-run partnership in just 25 balls. However, after scoring  22 runs off 15 balls and adding 72 important  runs along with Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni was succumbed to a ball from Fernando caught by Zaheer. Suresh Raina scored brilliant 57 not out which helped in putting on board  168 runs for 5 wickets.

With a challenge of chasing 169 runs win, Mumbai suffered an early blow as Shikhar Dhawan was out in the 2nd over of the innings who was caught behind the wickets by Dhoni off Bollinger for a duck. However, Tendulkar and Abhishek Nayar took the Mumbai total past the 50-run mark in the 10th over of the innings. Nayar (27) became the second Mumbai batsman to depart from the wicket after he was brilliantly run-out off a direct hit. HarbhajanSingh who was promoted to bat at number four  did not live up to his expectation and was out lbw by Suresh Raina for  just 1run. Meanwhile, after scoring 48 runs, Tendulkar was proceeded to the pavilion  while trying to push the scoring rate who was caught by Murali Vijay at long-off off Shadab Jakati.

Saurabh Tiwary’s short stay at the wicket came to an abrupt end after he was brilliantly caught by Suresh Raina off Jakati for a duck. JP Duminy became the sixth Mumbai wicket to fall after he was caught by Jakati off Muttiah Muralitharan for 6 runs followed by the ouster of Keiron Pollard caught by Hayden off Morkel, with which ended the home of the Mumbai  team to win the championship. Thus, the Mumbai Indians could score only  to 146 runs for 9 as against 168 for 5 the Chennai Super Kings.
