Mangalore, 10 October 2011: It is quite interesting to know that the Konkani film titled ’Ujwaadu’ (Light) will be hitting the screens in Big Cinemas on October 14, 2011. On the wake of the Tulu film ’Oriyardori Asal’ making news by crossing the 130-day mark, the prospect of a Konkani film hitting the silver screen is seen as a fillip to the regional cinema. An offering of Mitra Media Pvt Ltd, Bangalore, ’Ujwaadu’ is the fifth Konkani film ever produced, and third in Gowd Saraswath Brahmin (GSB) Konkani. The two other Konkani films are in Catholic Konkani.
’Ujwaadu’ is directed by Srinivas Rao a versatile actor who is popularly known as ’Kasargod Chinna’. The film was shot in and around Karkala in Udupi district in a single schedule of 18 days. Drawing from his real life experience and the people he has come across, Chinna has tried to portray the life of the GSB community focusing on trials and tribulations that the elderly in the community face at old age homes. ’Ujwaadu’ is a name of one such home in the film.
Keeping in mind the target audience of the GSB community that abounds in this part of the state, the film will be initially released in Big Cinemas here on October 14. "Once we have reached the core GSB Konkani speaking audience locally, I have plans to release this film in other centres," Chinna said. "Language does not become a barrier for a good subject and a good film will easily surmount the language barrier, reaching out to those concerned," he says.
On the subject on the film, Chinna says the 113-minute film, which has four songs intertwined in it speaks about how the elderly finally are the ’light’ in our lives.
