Mangalore: St. Agnes College organizes "Eco Week 2024"

Mangalore, 25 July: “Environment” encompasses everything around us & it plays a crucial role in sustaining of life on earth. A healthy environment is essential for human well – being, economic prosperity and sustainable development. To foster the interest & care for nature among the students, the Eco- club “SRISHTI” under the aegis of the Department of Biology, St Agnes PU College, Mangaluru, organized Eco-Week 2024.
On the occasion of Van Mahotsav, a series of activities were organized for the I & II PUC Biology students. These activities were designed to instill in them a sense of responsibility towards the environment. The festival of trees, provided an excellent opportunity to engage students in activities that ignited their passion for the nature and to promote environmental awareness and sustainability.
The event was marked by a flurry of activities that would tap into the latent creativity and artistic flair of the students. The students displayed their love for nature through various mediums which included rock paintings, card making, charts etc that carried the message of oneness with nature and the pressing need of the day to preserve and espouse the cause of nature conservation. They also highlighted the detrimental impact of plastic pollution and advocated the need for a plastic- free environment. An exhibition on home remedies, for common ailments, fostered a greater appreciation for traditional knowledge and practices. A classroom awareness initiative was launched to educate students about the significance of Van Mahotsav and the need for environmental stewardship. A quiz competition was conducted to test students’ knowledge on the topic of environment including biodiversity, conservation and the importance of trees. Theme- centered melodious group song performances created a festive atmosphere and reinforced the message of protecting and preserving the environment. The students enthusiastically showcased their scientific skills by creating intricate models of various concepts related to nature conservation.
The Van Mahotsav celebration by Eco Club was a resounding success and students displayed intense fervour by actively participating in various activities. The event not only promoted environmental awareness but also nurtured creativity, collaboration and instilled a sense of responsibility towards nature. The Eco club, at St Agnes Pu College, looks forward to organizing more such events to continue promoting sustainable practices and environmental education.
