Moodubelle: Udupi Zone Girls Kabaddi Tournament held in St. Lawrence Eng. Med. School

Moodubelle, 20 August 2011: The Udupi Zone  High School Girls Kabaddi Tournament was held in the premises of St. Lawrence English Medium High School, Moodubelle on Saturday, 20 August 2011. The tournament inauguration programme was presided over By Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Correspondent of the Parish Educational Institutions. Basavaraj, Director f Physical Education of Udupi was the Chief Guest. Other guests of honour included Fr. Paul Sequeira, Principal of St. Lawrence Composite PU College, Moodubelle, Navin Shetty-Physical Training Instructor  from Innanje High School,  A.K. Alva, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council, and Mrs. Janet Menezes and Mrs. Gracy D’Souza, members of the Parents-Teachers Association.

 

Following the prayer and welcome address by Fr. Lancy Saldanha, Principal of St. Lawrence  English Medium High School, the Kabaddi Tournament was  formally inaugurated by the dignitaries on the dais by lighting the lamp.

 

 

Basavaraj in his message to  the students and Kabaddi players from different  high schools said that the game has becme quite popular among the students of the rural areas as they have better facilities, stamina and interest  compared to the  urban students. Fr. Paul Sequeira said that Kabaddi game teaches good strategies which are useful in life and Fr. Joswey Fernandes in his message said that any game, specially Kabaddi is good for mental and physical growth which ultimately leads to good health.

 

Jagdish, the PTI of St. Lawrence English Medium High School compeered the programme and Mrs. Sumalatha proposed the vote of thanks.

 

Girls  teams from 11 high schools competed in the Udupi Zone Kabaddi Tournament. Eventually, Girls Team from St. Francis English Medium High School, Mudarangadi secured First position followed  Government Composite PU College, Hiriyadka in the Second place.  Mrs. Jacinta Aranha, President of the Belle Grama Panchayat distributed the prizes.

 

The winning team will participate in the District Level High School Girls Kabaddi Tournament  which will be held at Kambada Kone.
