Udupi/M’Belle, 11 Dec 2015: Meticulous planning, smooth prize distribution, brief and appropriate message from the chief guest, excellent time management  and  enjoyable  variety entertainment programme marked the annual day celebration of St. Lawrence English Medium High School, Moodubelle on Friday, 11 December 2015 in St. Lawrence Parish Hall. The three hour long programme that started exactly at 2.30 pm ended with National Anthem at 5.30 pm.

 

The Annual Day Function was presided over by Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions, Moodubelle. Rev. Fr. Fred Mascarenhas, Parish Priest of Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi and Dean of Udupi Varado was the chief guest. Other dignitaries on the dais included: Mrs. Ranjan Hegde-President of Belle Grama Panchayat, Devdas Hebbar-memebr of Udupi Taluk Panchayat, Alphonse Alva-Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, Mrs. Gladys Rebello-President of PTA, Benedict Martis-Donor, Mrs. Veera Fernandes-Headmistress of St. Lawrence English Medium High School and Karthik Shetty-Student Pupil Leader(SPL).

 

Following the welcome address by Mrs. Malathi, senior teacher of the school, Mrs. Veera Fernades presented the annual report of the school highlighting the achievements of the institution in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities including Pratibha Karanji and sports. Besides scoring cent percent result in SSLC for the successive fifth year, the students of the school have brought laurels in Pratibha Karanji and Sports, especially in Volleyball by winning tournaments at cluster, zonal, taluka and district level. Some of the students were selected to play the game at the state level.

 

Prizes to the meritorious students who had excelled in academics and other activities were distributed by Rev. Fr. Fred Mascarenhas, Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Mrs. Ranjani Hegde, Alphonse Alva, Benedict Martis,  Mrs. Gladys Rebello and Devdas Hebbar.

 

 

In his brief message, Rev. Fr. Fred Mascarenhas complimented the headmistress Mrs. Veera Fernandes, the entire teaching staff and students for their achievements in academics and other activities. He emphasized on the fact that the chief aim of education is to educate not only the mind of students but also to educate their hearts. He further said that education should bring out the best hidden talents of the students. Education should enable the students to bring forth their competence. However, competence without character is of no use. He appealed the teachers to use the opportunity to inculcate the human and social values in the students so that they would become good human beings and useful members of the society.

 

Devdas Hebbar in his address said that students and parents should not always think about engineering or medical professions as their aim of studies. They should try to get into government service by preparing themselves for competitive examinations leading to IAS, IPS and IFS.

 

Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas thanked the headmistress, the staff, students and parents for  the good education that is being provided by the institution an congratulated them for good performance in the fields of academics, cultural activities and sports.

 

Mrs. Reshma D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks and Mrs. Joyce D’Sa anchored the programme.

 

The much anticipated variety entertainment programme began immediately after the stage programme. Melita D’Suza and Malcom Mathias, both tenth standard students compeered the programme flawlessly. Students from LKG to tenth standard presented various programmes, mostly dances manifesting confidence and coordination. There were two group songs, one Kamsale item and a dance programme depicting the glory of Karnataka.

 

The entire variety entertainment programme was well rehearsed  by the students under the  supervision of the headmistress, Mrs. Veera Fernandes and direction of their respective teachers. The coordination among the students was quite good. The costumes were dazzling  and attractive. The touch of professionalism could be seen throughout the programme. The dances and other programmes presented by the students could match even those of some of the colleges. Meticulous planning and dedicated training  have gone into the preparation of these programmes. According to Mrs. Veera Fernandes, the teachers and students have been practicing for the last one month. This proves the dictum ’Practic makes perfect’.

 

 

Earlier in the morning at 11.30 am, Mr. Narayan Karkera, LIC Agent hoisted the school flag marking the inauguration of the Annual School Day of St. Lawrence English Medium School and also distributed prizes to meritorious students from first standard to tenth standard.
