Mulki: One Day Workshop on English Language Teaching at Vijaya College

Mulki, 14 July 2011: Association of English Teachers of Mangalore University arranged a One Day Workshop at Vijaya College, Mulki on Monday 11th July 2011. Dr. H. Shantaram, Administrative Officer, Academy of General Education, Manipal inaugurated the Workshop. Dr. M. A. R Kudva, Chairman Governing Council Vijaya College, Mulki presided over the function.
Prof. K R Shankar, Principal of the College wished for the success of the workshop. Prof. Vincent Alva, President of AET welcomed the guests. Prof Dattatreya, the English Lecturer of the College proposed vote of thanks. Prof. Baburaj, Secretary of Association compeered the programme. Prof Hayavadana Upadhya, HOD of English moderated the sessions.
In his inaugural speech Dr. H Shantaram observed “Now-a-days trend is that to make education easier and easier. It is not a healthy trend. Not only English even Kannada is not taught properly……. It is the duty of the English Lecturers to create interest in the English language among the students. Students should learn languages as languages not just as subjects…….”
Resource person Prof. Rajendra Chenni of Kuvempu University spoke on three novels- 1) Things Fall Apart 2) Animal Farm 3) The Apprentice – these are prescribed as text to degree students for their third semester. 130 English Lecturers form Kodagu, D.K and Udupi districts participated in this one day workshop.
