Academic Year 2011-12 of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions inaugurated

Moodubelle, 30 May 2011: The new academic year 2011-2012 of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions was inaugurated by the Correspondent of the educational institutions, Fr. Joswey Fernandes by formally lighting of the lamp in the presence of the students and staff members of the Church Aided Higher Primary School, St. Lawrence English Medium High School and St. Lawrence Composite PU College in a function in the Parish Hall on Monday, May 30, 2011 at 10 am. The inauguration function was also attended by Devdas Hebbar, president of the udupi Taluk Panchayat, Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza, member of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat, donors of the School Buses, Commodore Jerome Castelino and Valerian Alva, heads of the three institutions and members of the Schools-College Managing Committee.
Prior to the formal inauguration of the academic year, students of St. Lawrence English Medium High School conducted all religions prayer service. Following the welcome address by Raphael Aranha, headmaster of the Church Aided Higher Primary School and offering flowers to the guests on the dais, the newly appointed lecturers of the PU Science Section were welcomed by Fr. Paul Sequeira, principal of St. Lawrence Composite PU College by offering them roses. These lecturers are: Santhosh (Maths), Dilip (Computer Science), Ms. Alwyna D’Souza (Chemistry) and Ms. Latha (Biology).
The newly admitted students of the 8th standard in Kannada medium as well as English medium high schools and First Year PUC students were symbolically welcomed by the representatives of the 10th standard and Second Year PUC offering flowers to the representatives of the newly admitted students.
Following the formal inauguration of the academic year 2011-12, the chief guests of the function who also happen to be the old students of the institutions, Devdas Hebbar and Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza were honoured by Fr. Joswey Fernandes by presenting them shawls and garlands. The donors of the School Buses-Commodore Jerome Castelino and Valerian Alva were also similarly felicitated.
Fr. Paul Sequeira and Fr. Lancy Saldanha presented the results of SSLC and PUC of their respective institutions and appreciated the efforts taken by the teachers, students and the parents in achieving good results of their respective institutions. Thereafter the students who had passed their respective examinations in distinction grade were honoured by the Correspondent by offering them gifts and roses.
Devdas Hebbar, Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza and Alphonse K. Alva, vice president of the Parish Pastoral Council and the member of the School-College Managing Committee in their messages wished the students and the staff members well for the new academic year 2011-12 and said that besides education, the student should learn the values of life and fulfill the dreams of their parents by studying well, scoring good marks and bringing a name to their educational institutions and village.
In his presidential address, Fr. Joswey Fernandes said that the inauguration of the new academic year is a happy occasion and students should take full advantage of the opportunities provided in the educational institutions. He made a special reference to the School Buses and once again thanked the donors, Commodore Jerome Castelino and Valerian Alva.
Mrs. Hilda Aranha compeered the programme and Mrs. Chandrakala proposed the vote of thanks.
Prior to the opening of the academic year, a special English Course was organized in St. Lawrence Composite PU College for the First Year PUC from May 24 to 28, 2011 which was conducted by Fr. Paul Sequeira and Br. Mahesh D’Souza. Commodore Jerome Castelino was the chief guest on the last day of the course. The English course was conducted in order to train the students to get acquainted with the English language which would be the medium of instruction in PU College.
In St. Lawrence English Medium High School, Smart Classes were conducted on May 23 and 24, 2011 for all the members of the staff with a view to make the class instruction interesting and meaningful and also to raise the standard of the students and the staff.
Why priests are giving so much of importance / attention to these politicians(am not pointing out in particular personality here!)? What improvement they have done for this school through govt directly or indirectly? They are not upto the expectations and we simply expecting too much out of them. Anyway this is never ending story!!! I guess this time Fruits were very expensive /or( they are diabetic!!!) So hope there were no fruits handed over these politicians. Jai Hoooo.....
