State level Konkani Women’s Literature – Cultural Utsav begins

Udupi, 29 May 2011: “Coastal District is Konkan region; Konkans are devotees, sathwik, simple and hardworking people. The contribution of Konkanis in the development of the district is enormous. Women’s literature and cultural Utsav taking place in the presence of Shrikrishna has brought so much joy” said Shri Krishna Mutt Paryaya Shri Shiruru Mutt Shri Laxmivara Thirtha Swamiji.

 

He was speaking upon inauguration of 2 day State level Konkani Women’s Literature – Cultural Utsav : 2010 – 11 at Shri Madhva Mantap, sponsored by Shri Mutt and conducted by Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy Mangalore on Saturday.

 

Speaking on the occasion Higher Education Minister Dr. V.S. Acharya said that the contribution of our Coastal District is quite a lot. Among the 11 Academies, the center of 4 Academy is in Coastal District and all languages such as Konkani, Tulu, Byari and also Yakshagana Bayalata Academy performs very well. The state government has given sufficient grants to the growths of language, arts, literature and culture.

 

Dr. Acharya said that the Konkani Academy is not just confined to Karavali District, but the development programs are taking place in outer states too, which is very much appreciable. The literature in Konkani is very rich and needs to be translated in Kannada and other languages. There has been demand from Konkans from other states for the Konkani literature and copies of Konkani study books, he said. The government has given yearly grants of 50 lakhs rupees this year and along with that another 150 lakhs grants has been also released. He appreciated the achievements of the team lead by Academy President Narayana Kharwi.

 

 

Chief Guests of the program Jilla Panchayath President Katapadi Shankara Poojary and Udupi City Coporation Sthayi Samithi President Sumitra R. Nayak converyed best wishes. Speaking on the occasion Rev. Fr. William Martis – Parish Priest of St. Francis Xavier Church Udyavara said that Konkani is a beautiful language, even though it is one language it has varieties. Mothers need to teach the Konkani language to children and grandchildren, otherwise there is fear of the language diminishing. Learn the Konkani language compulsory at home and also other language in the society. Konkans are a great asset to the society and have served in the economical, educational, employment and social fields, he said.

 

The program was presided over by Academy President Kundapura Narayana Kharwi. He spoke on the occasion said that earlier the government was giving rupees 6 lakhs grant for the Academy and now Yediyoorappa government has given rupees 50 lakhs grant and has sanctioned rupees 150 lakhs special grants  and given more priority on Konkani language development, he said.

 

Coordinator of the sammelana and also the member of Academy B. Pundalika Marathe briefed the objectives of Mahila Sammelana and welcomed the guests. Academy registrar H. S. Shivarudrappa gave an introductory speech and described the achievement of the Academy. Puttur Panduranga Nayak sand native songs. Vasudeva Shanubhag Sirsi compeered the program. Member Mangalpadi Namadeva Shenoy proposed vote of thanks. Vasanth Bandkar conducted cultural programs.
