Moodubelle: Brahmakalashabhisheka in the Renovated Shri Brahma-Baidarkala Garodi

Moodubelle, 18 April 2011: The renovated Shri Brahma-Baidarkala Garodi in Moodubelle was rededicated with Brahmakalashabhisheka on Sunday, April 17,2011 with elaborate religious rituals conducted under the guidance of Korangrapadi Vidhwan Shri K.A. Sarvottama Tantri. According to Dr. H.B. Shetty, the Garodi was reconstructed 12 years ago in 1999 and after 12 years it was thoroughly renovated and rededicated in order to rejuvenate the Garodi and the deities residing in this shrine.

 

Prior to the rededication ceremony, preliminary rituals had started from Saturday, April 16 with Adhya Ganayaaga, Ugrana Muhurtha, Bhushuddhi, Saptashuddhi, Prasadashuddhi, Vaasthu homa and other rituals.

 

On Sunday, 17 April 2011, the main rituals of the rededication of the garodi started from 6.30 am with Punyaha, Pratishta homa, Pradhana homa, Prayaschittha homa and 108 Brahmakalasharadhane. At 10.30 am, the silver image of the chief deity of the garodi was reinstalled followed by Brahmakalashabhisheka during which holy water from 108 pots was poured over the image of the deity and the large images of Koti-Chennayya newly carved out from a special tree by sculptors from Kundapur. At the end, the Brahmakaalasha was taken in procession around the Garodi with great respect and devotion and was kept in front of the chief deity of the Garodi and final abhishek was done by the holy water contained in the Brahmakalasha.

 

The rededication ceremony was followed by Prasanna Puje, Darshana Seve and distribution of Prasad. The Brahmakalabhsheka was witnessed by head of the Kelamane Dr. H.B. Shetty and his family, head of Melamane, Vasantha Shetty and his family, family members of Moodumane, Badagumane and Padumane as well as Sanjiva Poojary, the Archaka of the Garodi and villagers of Belle and Edmeru.

 

From 1 pm, Annasantarpane (community meal) was organised in a specially arranged tent in which around 1200 villagers, irrespective of caste and religion participated.

 

 

On the occasion of the rededication and Brahmakalashabhisheka of the Garodi, a public function was arranged at 5 pm on April 17,2011. The function was presided over by Fr. Joswey Fernandes. P. Dayananda Kamath cmpeered the programme and welcomed the guests including Devdas Hebbar, President of Udupi Taluk Panchayat, Mrs. Jacintha Aranha, President of Belle Grama Panchayat, Vasant Shetty Kudi, Headmaster of Shri Vishnumurthy High School, Kodibettu and Vasant Shetty.

 

Vasant Shetty Kudi in his key note address traced the evolution of the worship of various deities in the Tulunadu such as Devaradhane, Daivaradhane, Nagaradhane and Bhootaradhane and the significance of these developments in the society. Devdas Hebbar in his brief speech said that it is the religious shrines in a village that reflect the quality of the village. As the President of the Udupi Taluk Panchayat, he assured that he will try his best to get various amenities required by the Garodi including an approach road.

 

Those persons who had donated more than Rs.10,000 for the renovation of the Garodi and to get the fine statues of Koti-Chennaya were honoured by Fr. Joswey Fernandes by offering them shawls and mementos. Those who had contributed in various ways in the renovation work and during the various programmes were also felicitated by offering them mementos.

 

 

In his message, Fr. Joswey Fernandes said that by attending this function, he could understand the tradition and customs behind the shrines of the deities known as Garodis in Tulunadu. Further he said that everyone requires the protection and strength from God. Though we live in the scientific age, we require strong roots in spirituality and seek Gods help and guidance in our day to day life. Fr. Joswey also said that there is lot of good will and harmony among the people of Belle irrespective of their different religious beliefs.

 

Dr. H.B. Shetty thanked the guests and all the donors and all those who had contributed in various ways not only in renovating the Garodi but also worked during the rededication programme of the Garodi.

 

The programmes in the Garodi will continue on Monday, April 18 and Tuesday, April 19, 2011. On April 18 the programme will commence from 6 pm with Birudavali, Bhandara Seve and from 8 pm Shri Brahma-Baidarkala Nemotsava that will end in the morning of Tuesday, April 19, 2011 with Mayandala Kola.

I can say Great turning point in religious consideration that a christian priest attending a temple that too in Garodi function.Since my childhood I have seen many Hindus attending church festivals and giving offerings.Today it is really a welcome trend opted by the priest,hats off Sir.
