Mangaluru: Konkani Sahitya Academy donates books to Mangalore University Library

Mangaluru, Jan 07, 2015: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy donated 280 Konkani books worth Rs 26,500 to Mangalore University, in a simple function held at the office of vice chancellor Professor K Bairappa, here on Monday January 5.

 

Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes handed over the books on behalf of the Academy on the occasion.

 

The Academy president Roy Castelino presented Konkani Calendar to Professor Bairappa.

 

 

The Academy member Lawrence D’Souza, registrar Dr B Devdas Pai, Blossom Fernandes, Mangalore University registrar Professor P S Yadapadittaya was present.  

 

Roy Castelino said that he observed during his past visit to Mangalore University that there were no Konkani books and the books were donated by the Academy, as they are highly essential since the higher classes in Konkani have already begun. He also thanked Professor Bairappa in this regard.  

Oscar Fernandes lauded the efforts of Academy in fostering Konkani.
