Mangalore: Gold Haul at City Airport; Customs seize Staple Pins worth over Rs 17 Lac

Mangalore, 23 Mar 2014: The officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport (MIA) once again thwarted an attempt of smuggling of gold and seized gold staple pins, totally weighing 577.000 grams and valued at Rs 17,19,460, concealed as silver colour coated staple pins in 18 carton boxes of dry fruits from the possession of a passenger - Nesif Kowal, aged about 28 years, who is a resident of Bevinja, Thekkil Ferry Post, Via Chengala, Kasargod district of Kerala and arrived at Mangalore International Airport on Sunday March 23 at about 07.15a by Air India Express (AIE) flight IX814 from Dubai.
The operations were conducted under the supervision of MIA assistant commissioner of customs Krishna Kumar Prasad, and were lead B Prabhakara Poojary, superintendent along with superintendents Lionel Fernandes, B A Kariappa, H G Yogesh and inspectors G Kumaraswamy, K T Preethi Suma, S Ranjan Behera and Ankit Kumar and Hawaldar Gulabi.
Further investigation is under progress at the guidance of commissioner of customs D Purushotham.
