Udupi: Rotary Shankerpura- Installation Ceremony & Charter Day Celebration

Udupi/Shankerpura, 02 July 2014: The installation ceremony of new office bearers of Rotary Club International (RCI) – Shankerpura was held at Rotary Centenary Bhavan, Shankerpura, near here on recently.
 
The chief guest and installation oficer of the function was RCI district governor Suryaprakash Bhat from Mangalore. Jerome Rodrigues was sworn in as president and Clifford D Mello as secretary of RCI - Shankarapura.
 
 
Jerome Rodrigues worked in the Sultanate of Oman at Muscat International Airport for over 3 decades. Seeing the good work done by the RCI - Shankerpura for the welfare of the underprivileged people he too joined hands with Rotary as an active member. After gaining confidence, he took the challenge to lead the club as President. His wife is a nurse by profession and actively involved in voluntary social service to the needy, mainly bedridden and elderly people. She is the president of the Inner Wheel Club, Shankerpura.
 
 
Clifford D’Mello is a young, energetic and proactive Rotarian. After working in the Gulf for a short period, now self employed dealing with Land links & Construction work. His wife is a postgraduate pursuing her Ph D and presently working as Assistant Professor at the College of Nursing, Manipal University also member of Inner Wheel, Shankerpura.
 
 
Speaking on the occasion, Suryaprakash Bhat showered praises to the club for the wonderful work done for the less privileged people of the society and he enthralled the large gathering with humour.

 

 
 
The well known Dr Denzil Noronha and his wife Dr Kajal Noronha couple who are working at Fr L M Pinto Hospital at Badyar in Beltangady taluk were felicitated on the same occasion.
 
 
RCI - Shankerpura is conducting many poor friendly projects for the needy people mainly, free psychiatric camp being conducted every month which has earned applause and accolades from general public. Also, free eye camps, seminars/workshops for school teachers, Talent Hunt and Stress Management programmes for school children, Maternal and Child Health programmes, Students and Parents insurance schemes and many other projects.
 
In 1985 Rotary International embarked on major a project that is making this world polio free. In India, RCI – Shankarapura achieved this goal recently by declared ‘Polio Free India’ by World Health Organization.
