Puttur: St Philomena PU College Student Council Inaugurated

Puttur, 29 June 2014: The inauguration of Students’ Council, Clubs and Associations for the academic year 2014 - 15 of St Philomena Pre-University College, here was held at their silver jubilee memorial hall, here on Saturday June 28.
 
Catholic Board of Education secretary and former Mai De Deus Education Institutions former correspondent Fr Gerald D’Souza blessed the newly-built classrooms at St Philomena Pre-University College, here.
 
Fr Gerald also inaugurated the students’ council, clubs and association for the academic year 2014 – 15 and presided the function.
 
The retired head of department of physics Professor B J Suvarna was the chief guest of the occasion..
 
Mai De Deus Education Institutions correspondent Fr Alfred Pinto, campus director Fr Antony Prakash Monteiro, St Philomena College principal Professor Leo Noronha, St Philomena Pre-University College principal Fr Vijay lobo, Alma Mater president M R Jayakumar Rai, parents teachers Association president Vincent Menezes were present at the dais.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Professor B J Suvarna narrated his great experience in this college as a student and a teacher. He also congratulated the students for choosing this college which has 55 years of glorious history.

 

 
Professor B J Suvarna further said, ‘Every stream, be it Arts, Commerce or Science has its own power and importance. Therefore, no one superior or inferior,’ said Professor Suvarna.  He described education as a tool of social change and he said that it is in the hands of the students to make use of it in the right way. 
 
Professor Suvarna cautioned the students by saying, ‘This is the crucial time of your life, and this is the age and stage of formation. You can either form your life with right decisions or can even destroy your life by choosing wrong path. Inoder to build your personality you have to work on your physical development, mental development, social development, moral development and spiritual development. This will surely transform you into a good individual.’
 
The students’ council president Purushotham Shenoy, secretary Sohan P S, joint secretary Josvitha Lobo along with the class representatives took the oath to work for the progress of the student community in collaboration with staff and management. It was led by the Fr Vijay Lobo.
 
Fr Gerald D’Souza was honoured for rendering 7 years of selfless as correspondent of Mai De Deus Education.
 
Fr Antony Prakash Monterioadvised the student to work with humility and obedience.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Alfred Pinto said, ‘You as youngsters should not be childish but be childlike, be open to correction, respect elders and live with simplicity.’
 
Fr Gerald D’Souza in his presidential address said, ‘Youngsters are the future leader of this democratic country and you work towards the betterment of your society.’
 
Fr Vijay Lobo welcomed the gathering. Josvitha Lobo proposed vote of thanks.  The chemistry lecturer Prashant Bhat compered the programme.
